Hi wonder if any one can help,

I fed my rabbit some carrot tops for the first time and bought organic because i wanted to ensure they had no treatment on them.

A day later the bunny got worms ive never fed her any fresh veg before as she has just turnt 16 weeks could it have been the veg?

Ive taken her to the vet and because she only weighs 1.3 kilos they couldnt give me the syringe type treatment instead i had to rub treatment onto her neck i think its cleared up as ive not noitced anything but now i am worried to give her any veg.

Also i wanted to no about feeding.

I feed her pellets its called waggs bunny brunch but i give her half in the morning and half at night it says once they reach a certain age i should stop this. I like feeding her half would it be ok to continue this way?

Would love it if you can share some advice

I’m confused about your post – what was this treatment for?

No, your rabbit did not get worms from carrot tops – likely she already had them – did the vet do a fecal test when you took her in?

I tried to look those pellets up online and couldn’t find much information on them. Try to stay away from pellets that are a mix with seeds in nuts in them. Most rabbits just pick out the seeds and nuts and leave the pellets behind. Being that your rabbit is only 16 weeks old you would want to introduce veggies slowly one at a time. Here is a great website on feeding instructions for every age. http://rabbit.org/faq-diet/ Did your rabbit have the worms on the outside of him. I personally have never heard of this. It might depend where you bought the veggies at. Make sure you rinse the veggies off before giving them to bunny. I also feed my bunnies oxbow pellets http://www.oxbowanimalhealth.com/ they have pellets for younger rabbits and pellets for adult rabbits. Rabbits should have a timmy based pellet. If you can’t find this brand around you there are other great timmy based pellet brand out there. hope this helps

I live in the UK so they are pellets that i have been reccomended. No the worms were just in the pop. I did rinse them off and the treatment was for worms it was called ivermectin.

Is it ok to feed them vegs alongside pellets?

              Thank you so much

I found the food you are feeding and it is not good at all. Who recommended it?

Here’s a page with pellet info (in the UK):

                  http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/care…itfood.asp

Feeding the “mixed” pellets is like eating McDonalds everyday. It may fill you up but it doesn’t give you the nutrients you need (it’s also fattening).

As for feeding veggies. Yes, you can feed them but you want to introduce them slowly. Here is a good safe bunny veggie list:

                  Are you feeding hay?

I would definitely switch her over to a plain hay based pellet. Oxbow is usually a good choice. I think I’ve heard good things about Burgess from some UK rabbit people.

The current pellets are not healthy at all.
