So I have been looking everywhere for craisins becuase I heard that feeding raisins can be unhealthy because of the grape skins. I can’t find craisins anywhere that don’t have sugar as the only ingredient listed other than cranberry. Are these okay, or do you guys have craisins without sugar added? Is there such a thing LOL. Do you have any other suggestions for clicker training treats? I have been chopping a raisin a day into TINY bits but that doesn’t last long when I’m training her.

        Thanks!

        Jessie

That’s what I give – you just give a bit as a treat – I’m very generous but you only want to give a few. I don’t think there is such a thing to tell you the truth.

Raisins are fine too – rabbits don’t have problems with grapes like dogs do.

Oh okay good! LOL I have a 20 pack of raisins -_- It will probably last 20 years. But I also have the craisins that I eat LOL. Ashe always gets super jealous when I eat them

They make reduced sugar craisins as well. I don’t think the added sugar (it’s sprinkled on top of them) is too bad since they’re given in limited amounts.

I’ve never seen the reduced sugar – those must be new! I’ll look the next time I go but I probably would continue with the regular just because that’s what I’ve always given without problem.

Wonder how different the taste is between the reduced sugar and regular….

They are new! I think I just started seeing them in the last couple months.

                    Here’s the official page:

I haven’t purchased these so I’m not really sure about them. Hopefully they just put less sugar and didn’t replace it with any sugar substitutes. I’ll have to look at the package next time I go shopping. Maybe I’ll grab a bag.

I still buy the regular ones too.

Thanks – that’s a good point about sugar substitutes too – funny they don’t have the ingredients listed on the website.

Since fresh grapes are safe to feed I expect the skins on raisins aren’t an issue.

i get freeze-dried fruit from costco (variety box of apple, apple with cinnamon, and strawberry with banana) that don’t have any sugar added.

if you have a fresh & easy or trader joe’s nearby, they also have a wide assortment of dried and freeze-dried fruits. just check the ingredients to make sure they don’t have sugar and/or oil added.

I actually had to pop into the store to grab something for dinner so I glanced at the Reduced Sugar Crasins.

Reduced Sugar Craisin Ingredients Listed: Cranberries, Soluble Corn Fiber, Sugar, Glycerin, Sucralose

So it looks like they do use replacement sweeteners! I find that disappointing. :/ The original are the way to go (only ingredients are cranberries and sugar).

I use pellets when I’m doing training – the bunnies love them and don’t realize it’s part of their regular meal. I like that they’re tiny and easy to eat, so I can give a lot of them and I don’t have to wait a minute for the rabbit to finish eating it.

Cranberries are very tart, so I don’t think anybody makes a variety without added sugar because they would taste terrible. Definitely avoid the reduced sugar varieties that have artificial sweeteners.

You might be able to find other dried fruits without added sugar. I once found a big package of dried papaya with no sugar and I just had to cut it up into little pieces.

I think I’ll stick with the regular ones then – thanks MD for checking and posting about the Reduced Sugar Craisins.
