        I was wondering how often you go to the vet for a checkup if at all. I took hopscotch to the vet 1 time for a checkup to make sure he was healthy. He lives alone and stays inside all of the time. Do you think I should still do a yearly checkup? or is it not worth it?

        Thanks

          Most vets will recommend any animal has at least once a year vet check up. More often for senior animals.

          I think it’s important for bunnies as they are good at hiding health problems. Also important to have their teeth checked, etc.

            Here are the reasons I like to do annual exams (for a well rabbit):

            1. Get to know the vet and staff – especially in case of an emergency – they will always get you in for a drop off even w/out an appt.;
            2. Chart of rabbits weight, general health, etc…

            Recently I have not done any annual exams because my rabbits (3 seniors and 1 dentally challenged rabbit) are seen regularly but before that I knew my vet very well because I made that once a year (minimum) contact.

              Since there are so many “silent” illnesses that can creep up over time, and bunnies hide illness well, I would say it’s easily worth it. I personally go every 6 months, but our vet is amazing and check ups are dirt cheap. Plus, it’s worth the small price to know that your bunny is perfectly healthy! I would definitely recommend the annual check up.

                We’ve only had for for a year, but she’s been to the vet twice, once right after we found her and today for a yearly checkup. Our vet staff also cuts her nails, so she’s been in twice for that. I like that the staff is getting to know her, just in case there’s ever an issue.

                  I believe once a year is a must.

                  As Sarita said – it will also help you establish a good relationship with your vet and their staff for emergencies. One of my buns recently stopped eating and I called an hour before they closed not knowing what to do. They were booked but let me bring him in anyways for a check. My vet and I have a great relationship where we will email back and forth if something comes up with one of the bunnies and she’s not available.

                  Also, rabbits are very good at hiding illnesses. So it’s always better to catch a problem before it gets worse. There could be lots of things you may not notice that a vet will.

                    To answer the question literally, with Bindi- at least once a month…. He’s a very high maintenance little fluffy.
