I’m looking into buying a big play pen for my bunny so he has more space.
I was looking at http://www.coopsandcages.com.au/rabbits/portable-rabbit-playpen-red/ that one.

It appeals to me because it’s foldable because I don’t have a lot of space, and a little car so it needs to fit! And his current cage only just fits.

Has anyone had any problems with their bun chewing their playpen? My concern is because it’s not a ‘cage’ he might ruin it.

Does anyone have any suggestions or alternatives?

        Thank you!!

I wouldn’t use a cloth one because it seems to easy for them to escape/tear through it.

What about an x – pen? They fold up to the size of one panel.

          http://www.amazon.com/EliteField-Exercise-Panels-Each-Panel/dp/B0045T2UJQ/ref=sr_1_18?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1369110443&sr=1-18&keywords=X+Pen++Midwest

If you look at the pictures, it shows one folded up.

I looked into them a little bit, but I feel like it would be harder to control mess (e.g. toilet accidents, hay confined to one area) also they don’t have anything to cover the top with & Bear has a reputation of making huge leaps!

X-Pens come as tall as 4 feet (122 cm). If you’re worried about Bear jumping out of them you can lay a sheet or cloth over the top as a visual deterrence which is usually pretty effective. They also make covers specifically for these types of pens.

I house 3 of my rabbits in X-Pens (permanent homes). I actually find my X-Pens easier to clean than some other options because they are so easy to move. As for containing hay. I stack the hay in their litter box and it’s pretty contained.

If you want to see X-Pens in action check out the habitat gallery:

I agree with the others. That pen is very expensive for something that could be destroyed in a day or two. A dog xpen is a much safer option.

That pen does not look like it will last and I don’t understand the idea of cloth on the ground – I would definitely do the x-pen, much much better.

I think I might look into X-pens a bit more.
I live in a small apartment, can you put them up against a wall? i.e. sort of half folded out? In my head I’m imagining a hexagonal shape, so I suppose my question is can you maneuver them to become half hexagons?

Yes! They can be maneuvered in most spaces and are very adaptable. You could make a half hexagon or even a square.

A lot of people just configure them in a square. When they’re square, they are 4×4 feet, which is a great size for a bunny. You can snug it into a corner, altho you might want to leave a couple inches space to protect the walls and baseboards. The panels are each 2 feet wide and there are 8 of them. Another option is to make the pen long and narrow, 2 feet by 6 feet.

Check out the pen section in the habitat gallery — might be able to help you visualize some options. https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/GreatHabitats/tabid/229/Default.aspx

Though I know you said space is a bit limited and so some of the photos of pens may be too spacious for your situation but check out the first photo in the pen section. It shows two separate xpens.  It’s actually Bekas, though I know she has revised it since then since her bunnies are now bonded and housed together.    Anyway, it shows what one xpen folds out to — good size for a bunny. And you don’t have to make it square but do like what Beka said 2 feet by 6 feet.
