My Holland Lop, Lilly, loves chocolate. The sound of the wrappers are enough to have her crawl all over me. She even ran away with a mini KitKat the other day! I know this is a horrible thing for rabbits — most pets, really — to consume. BUT, would vegan chocolate be acceptable?

No, it’s full of sugar still and while it may be vegan it’s not fruits or vegetables.

I imagine as well, it’s more the wrapper sound that gets her going – try tricking her with the wrapper sound and more appropriate treats. She’s just conditioned to think that sound means treats.

Anything with Cacao isn’t safe for a bunny. The reason chocolate is toxic is because of the theobromine found in cacao plants. Vegan chocolate made with cacao would still be bad. If you’re asking about carob chocolate I’m not sure on it’s toxicity but I don’t think it would be a healthy treat for a bunny.

It’s easier/safer/healthier to stick with small amounts of fruit for treats.

I’m sure your bunny would be just as happy with a small piece of banana or pear.
