Hiya, just to cut a long story short, had my bunny nearly 2 weeks he is now 10 weeks old. He’s a beige and white lion head. I purchased him from pets at home and they recommended I buy rice bites treats for him, so I did trusting their advice. I admittedly gave him too many in early days as I was excited and then I hid 3/4 around his cage to keep him occupied whilst I am at school (have left school now so around a lot more). I also read the packet  today after a woman on yahoo answers had a go at me for giving him rubbish treats which are harming him and it said that they shouldn’t be given to bunnys under 4 months! I’m so worried I’ve made him Ill I only did what the pet shop said. the last 2/3 days his poo has been soft and occasionally smelly. He also got some stuck in the fur around his bum, tried my best to wipe it/brush it out but a small amount remains tips on how to remove that would be appreciated. But my main worry is this diarrhoea? I have stopped giving him treats he only eats hay and pellets now. Will this pass? Is he ok? Thank you.

He won’t be ill from this but you are right to stop giving him these treats. Rabbits rarely get true diarrhea HOWEVER if he was having it runny stool (which is not the same as diarrhea) a probably suspect would be coccidia.

So it’s good you have stopped the “rubbish” food but it’s always advisable to get your new rabbit into the vet for an overall exam and have a fecal test done as well.

And as for “rubbish” food, it’s really not a good thing to give rabbits of any age. The majority of treats that are sold in pet food stores is not good for small animals – that is not to say all is, but much is.

I agree, get him into a rabbit-savvy vet sometime soon (hopefully within the next week) for a fecal exam.
