Yesterday, was such a roller coaster for me.

Lullabelle was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her mouth, which was removed approx 3 weeks ago. At that time the vet explained to me that it was aggressive and probably had already spread. He gave me my options as to what to do and after talking to him for about 45 minutes on the phone I had decided to allow Lulla to live out her life as happy and comfortable as possible.

Friday night her original symptoms returned – drooling. My heart broke immediately and the rest of the weekend I wouldn’t allow Lullabelle out of my sight. I decided to call and make an appointment for Monday morning. I’m not sure exactly what I wanted to accomplish at this appointment. Maybe just explain to me what the results were saying and evaluate where Lullabelle was at with the cancer.

Dr. Burmeister is on vacation. So Dr. Borgestern took his place to see Lullabelle. I’ve dealt with her before and have always really liked her. She examined Lullabelle and read to me the pathology report. This time, I took a completely different approach. Perhaps since I was over the initial shock of cancer.

The report was VERY conflicted. She said so herself. It said that that tumor was malignant, isolated, but fast growing. It also said that it had began mineralizing, suggesting it was a sarcoma rather than a melanoma but it wasnt attached to her bone. This tumor was attached to skin. She explained to me that based on her examination that it appeared that the cancer hadn’t spread, but was growing back in the same place in her mouth. There was a small bump and a lot of lumpy tissue which could have been what was just left over from the last surgery since they didnt know it was cancer and didnt remove that tissue. She told me she thought that if I removed this tissue there was a good chance Lullabelle would be cancer free. I was so happy. I cried!!!

She said she would discuss the procedure with another vet as she wanted there to be 2 vets present for the surgery. She said she would call me back tomorrow and let me know what they decided.

I got a call about an hour or 2 later. The vet said they were reviewing her xrays from her last surgery and there were questionable spots on Lulla’s lungs. She said they didn’t make sense and werent sure what they were and would like me to bring Lulla back as soon as possible for chest xrays. I left work immediately and brought Lulla in.

They showed me the xrays. I could see the spots. But it wasn’t on her lungs, it was on her liver. Both vets said they weren’t sure what they were and weren’t ready to say that it was cancer. There is some vet forum site and she asked my permission to post the xrays to get other’s opinions. My heart was broken again. Im not a doctor but I know what spots look like. It was pretty much over for me.

On my way back to work she calls again saying that she’s already got responses. She said that she compared Lulla’s xrays to xrays of rabbits who had had the same spots but they were a result from a past gall bladder attack. They said that these usually were stumbled on when looking for something else, and that it was not cancer, and was not affecting Lullabelle. She said she was 99.9% sure that this was not cancer.

The surgery is on!!!! Friday morning!!!

I told them to take EVERY bit of tissue out. I told them I didn’t care if it left her a little deformed. Just get it out and give me my Lullabear back!!!

I’m so happy. The price tag is the only part that is sad. I will do my best to pay for this, and they’ve aggreed to work with me. I’ve applied for Care Credit and was denied, as well as my boyfriend and my mother. It must be very hard to get this credit??? lol. That’s alright. I will gladly be broke for my baby girl. Let’s just get her better!!!

I was so doom and gloom since we got the cancer results. Now I am seeing a little light and needed to share this with you all. Thank you for all your support over the years!!!!

            Wow roller coaster is right!
It’s great this vet consulted with others and you now have a more positive prognosis.

Wishing you & Lullabelle much good luck for Friday!
