My bunny, Cuddles, was spayed on Tuesday. She has been having a good recovery, except for the fact that she chewed through her first set of stitches. I noticed her licking down there and jerking her head back, which looked like she was trying to get the stitches out. Turns out I was right.

The vet gave her some metal stitches yesterday. I was told she would be dissuaded by the taste to chew them out. However, she looks like she is trying to do the same thing with these. They look like they are still in, just not as well as they were yesterday. The incision is still being held together. Is there anything I can apply to her incision to make her stop from trying to get them out?

I’m not sure what you can apply to her incision, but maybe you could try and distract her with tasty hay and toys. I’m very surprised they used metal stitches… when do they plan to take them out? My rabbit got dissolvable stitches when she was spayed.

I don’t know of anything you could apply to her incision, but you may have to put a collar or cone on her to keep her from getting to the area.

I’m really surprised they used metal stitches, my boy got dissolvable ones. You might have to put a cone on her to keep her away from her stitches

Yeah, put a cone on her until the stitches are taken out. My vet uses dissolving internal stitches for exactly this reason, rabbits are prone to pulling them out if they get get to the stitches.

My vet used disolvable stitches internally, and glued the outer incision. Maybe suggest that if you have to go back to the vet?

A cone might be necessary. It’s sad to do it but it might be your only option. One of my buns had to wear one for a week after his neuter.
