        Hi everyone,

I posted 2 months ago about losing our 1st bunny, my beloved holland lop boy Bun, at 10 months old. That brings me to this point…we welcomed a new boy yesterday, a 2 month old mini lop boy named Boon! He was born the day our precious Bun passed so I will take that as a sign. I was definitely drawn to this little guy even though I’m not sure I’m 100% ready to have a new bunny only 2 months after losing my boy.

I would love to have any advice, tips, tricks any of you have. Bun was so easy, loving, funny etc. and was easy going from day one. Boon is a bit more skittish and I’m just looking for suggestions on how to bond with this boy and bring him out of his shell. Thanks for any advice you may have!

        Carrie

My bunny is shedding an awful lot which I know is normal but why is he developing a bald patch on the top of his head ?

I am probably not early as experienced as many others here, but I suggest just sitting with Boon. Read a book next to his cage, lay den on the floor where he can come to you. Avoid situations where he will either need to be picked up or chased. Some bunnies seem to be more aware than others that they are prey animals and feel safer with all feet on the floor and in their own control of getting to know you on their own terms. Good luck!

PurpleBunni has some good tips to bond. Just spend time with Boon. Not necessarily petting and holding him, but being around in general will teach him that you are not a threat. Eventually he will come up out of curiosity and check you out. When you start introducing veggies you can feed those veggies by hand so he will associate you with some tasty treats!

Jess&Manson- you need to make up a new topic so people can offer you advice to your specific situation.

                Congrats on your new bunny!

Some bunnies take longer than others to bond with their human. Your best bet is to sit on the floor and let Boon out for some play time. Just read or watch TV and ignore him, let him come to you. You can have some pellets or little treat bits to give him when he comes over.

Enjoy the new bun! Yes, all bunnies have different personalities. Also, their breeders may have handled them to a different degree or even handled their parents to a different degree– rabbits can pick up attitudes toward humans from parents just like us.

Purplebunni’s advice is very good. All rabbits need to be ready to run as animals preyed upon. It takes them a while to establish a territory they’re comfortable with. Also, they don’t see well (like horses) and sense everything from a diffreent position than you all the time because you are so much bigger. The more time you spend down at his eye level, in the world he senses, the more you will understand too how he is processing it. Reading a book by his cage is a very good idea.
