This morning I was feeding one of my rabbits, Momo, his pain medicine (he broke a tooth) when I realized that I had the doses mixed up and gave him more than prescribed. I gave him .15 ml of metacam instead of .1 he weighs about 3.5 pounds and is acting normally. I just wanted to make sure that he will be ok.

hmm not sure bunnies are normally good at metabolising it but it might effect his kidneys if its too much, I would check with the vet but if yu can’t get lots of water down him to try and flush it out. Hope he’s ok! x

How often does he have the metacam?
I’m thinking its not too bad… (0.12mls is a maintenance dose of metacam) but still, ring your vet just to check if what’s been given is ok. For your own peace of mind too.

Thanks for the quick replies. My vet isn’t in on Sundays but I’ll call the emergency vet near me to be sure. He is getting metacam twice a day. He’s been drinking a lot of water and I left his vegetables very wet. He’s been acting normal. Lots of binkies and flops. But I’ll call just to be sure.

                Good to hear. : )
You might want to also ask them if wise to reduce his 2nd dose just for today.

Well metacam can be hard on tummies. If you just did it, I would say feed quite a bit of food to make that easier. And now, keep an eye for any tummy trouble. Maybe feed more food if possible just to keep things moving along well.

But I think it shouldn’t be a problem, it’s not like you gave 5ml instead of 0.5ml It was really only 1.5x his dose. I would do what JErsey said exactly-just a smaller dose for the next one
