So horribly upset right now.
Thursday night Bindi was fine. Friday at 7:00 am he didn’t want breakfast. After several doses of simethicone, tummy rubs and Metacam to no avail we went to the vet. He stayed there all day. Got fluids, motilitiy, etc. She said he ate a bit in the afternoon. I picked him up for a night of home care. He didn’t eat anything here but pooped a few big, mushy poops around 10:00 pm. I stayed up all night giving CC every couple of hours and comforting him. This morning, back to the vet. He’s been there all day. It’s 5:04 now and she wants to keep him overnight. He is in serious GI slowdown, nothing is moving. We went to see him today and he seemed spunky enough but absolutely refuses food. I know he is in good hands but I’m so terrified. I can’t lose my little bear!
I really wish I would have knocked on wood. Thursday night I e-mailed my vet to give her an update that “Bindi is doing great! Great appetite.” Next morning it all started.
He’s been on Oral Baytril about 2 weeks. Not sure if that is the cause or not. He was perfectly fine until now. Has about 2 doses left to be done treatment.
Please pray for my bunny. When I say it’s one thing after another with Bindi, I’m not exagerrating. It’s just usually not this serious. Last time it was this bad was the time he ate stuffing from a plush toy.
Oh Little Puffy Tail, my heart and prayers do go out to you and Bindi! I really feel for you and will be thinking of you and sending you both love and positive thoughts! Hopefully you will be able to post good news soon!
LPT, I am sending you mega-Bindi vibes:

If it’s any consolation, Sammy scared us all on Wednesday by not eating her breakfast, moping in her basket, and not acting normally for many, many hours. Once she had a major poo session, she was spunky the next day. Even my brother called to ask if she was better. She was especially loving the next day, and enjoyed some soft parsley. She wanted lots of pets and head rubs.
So I am hoping that Bindi takes a cue from Sammy and feels better right away!
Oh LPT! I am so sorry to hear that Bindi isn’t feeling so well. You guys are in my thoughts and I am rooting for his healthy recovery on this!
~Get well soon, Bindi!~
Mega Vibes for Bindi Loo….. Poor little man has had such a rough time of it lately…………… Hugs for both of you.
Vibes coming in from oregon!
Vibes for Bindi! Thinking of you LPT
((((BINDI VIBES)))) Get well little bun!
Vibes for Bindi! Feel better soon!
Vibes for Bindi!!
Hogeeze, hun, I’m only just seeing this now. Of course I will pray for Bindi. Does the vet suspect a blockage or just that the Baytril has unbalanced him?
It’s my understanding that if there’s something holding things up a bunny’s blood sugar will rise high. I don’t know if your vet has tested his bloods or taken an xray?
I know you said he pooped, but has he done any more since that one? Is he peeing/drinking at least?
He really will be cared for well at your vet, I know it is hard but try not to worry. Take deep breaths and remember that Our Lord is in control of all of this. He will take care of and be right there with Bindi.
I am with you in spirit. Me and all the bunnies and kitties and Jenna will keep paws crossed for Bindi Loo. (((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))))) xxxx
Only just seeing this also. Sending many many {{{{{Vibes}}}}} for you and Bindi.
Sending vibes to Bindi from the UK. Just make sure he gets plenty of fluids, to try and help flush his gut out, I really hope he’ll be ok xxx
Any Bindi updates? Thinking of you and Bindi. <3
Poor Binid! (((VIbes))) Is he doing better today?
Gah, just typed for 10 minutes and it all erased….
Okay, so Bindi is home now. Many thanks for all the vibes.
Was a very restless night. Half of me was really expecting the worse. Vet e-mailed me during the night saying he had pooped about 22 very mucousy poops but was not eating. He seemed spunky. This morning around 11:30 am she called me that he had just started eating 10 minutes before and was really full of spunk. She said the last few doses of CC were incredibly difficult. He was having poops. So I went to pick him up.
He’s home now resting and de-stressing. He ate some greens. Very strict diet for now, no pellets (he’s gonna be mad!), lots of hay and moderate greens. Had some small, mushy poos and messy cecals but no normal ones yet.
Let’s hope it’s smooth sailing from here. Trying not to think about how last time after a bad stasis he got EC symptoms.
While he was at the vet, she checked his ears and there was bacteria. We are sending it to be cultured to determine if it’s actually an infection or just bacteria.
No idea what could have caused this stasis. Nothing out of the ordinary. Vet said his first batch of poos, she sort of dissected and noticed some small grainy particules. I have no clue. The last batch of Timothy I bought on Wednesday was very coarse. Maybe he was eating less of it.
My little man is such a trooper. He’s been through and recovered from so much. The poor guy is not even 6 years old yet.
We’re going to have some serious TV snuggles tonight.
So happy to be reading this update. (((Hugs)))
some snuggle therapy sounds like just the thing!
Stay healthy Mr Bindi-Loo
Get better soon Bindi.
(((bindi)))
I’m so glad to hear he is doing better. I notice since Mimzy has been on pellets again for almost the last year, he is having more issues with his ears…lots of extra gunk and stuff. I wonder if the binders in pellets cause some kind of yeast buildup in their systems?
Did your vet test for any fungal infection of his gut? I’m wondering because of the mucousy poos. Has Bindi ever gone completely without pellets for any extended time before?
I hope he continues to feel well and that you’re able to get some rest together. ((((((Hugs)))))) xxxx
Thank you for the update! I am glad to hear he is home and resting. Let’s hope it all goes up from here!
Mimzmum- Bindi was on barely any pellets for quite a while when he was having a lot of tummy problems. I upped them gradually to put weight back on and he’s been fine for a long time now. Not sure what to do now. Vet said no pellets for time being. But it’s really the only way to put weight on him.
I’m upset that just being sick for 3 days, he’s clearly lost the weight he just gained. I was very happy he felt less bony but now it’s very evident he’s too thin again. With no pellets, or very little, it’s going to be hard to put it back on.
He was having some really nice poops last evening. This morning there is a decent amount but very small and sort of teardrop shaped. And several little cow piles and one big one. Gonna keep a really close eye on him today. He ate all his veg this morning but didn’t eat much hay overnight.
I’m glad hes on the mend! You need to remove the veggies for a day or 2, otherwise he will go for them as they are a preference, if someone put out a dry cracker or a piece of chocolate in front of you, you’re more likely to for the chocolate! try giving him different types of hay, make it a bit more intreging and exciting and he’ll be more happy to eat it. then once hes eaten half a ball of hay, give him a couple of small bits of veggies, as a treat rather than a choice. If you want to help him put some weight on you can always add a few drops of honey to his water?
LPT, hope Bindi is continuing to recover from his stasis situation. I know how scary and stressful those are for both bunny and human Regarding putting weight on Bindi quickly, or even just keeping him from losing weight, I have two suggestions.
1) Alfalfa or oat hay – both are high in fat and calories.
2.) Rice bran pellets. I remember you have a horse (equestrians unite!) and wondered if perhaps your barn has access to rice bran pellets? I have an older TB mare who has been on them for years now. There are different brands but they are extremely high in fat and I have not met an animal yet who can resist them! I have been feeding them to my rabbit for the last 2 years to keep weight on him because he is such a skinny guy and has so much energy that he burns off way more than he eats. If you have access to rice bran, which hopefully you do because a 50lb bag will last you years with a rabbit, I would start with a few pellets a day and see how Bindi tolerates them. Willy eats 1 tablespoon a day, sometimes 2 tablespoons. Lastly, plain old Quaker oats from the grocery store are packed full of calories and are easy to digest as well – I think I mentioned this in a previous post.
It can be really scary to try a new food, pellet, type of hay, etc. on a sensitive bunny. My turning point was when my vet told me point blank that yes, feeding alfalfa (for example) was not ideal for a middle-aged bun, but if I didn’t do something to change the current feeding regime he was going to start worrying about my rabbit continuing to lose weight and that causing other issues. Eventually the lack of adequate nutrition would catch up in other illnesses such as a higher risk of recurring stasis, failing organs, shortened lifespan, etc. Serious medical problems! You won’t know if something helps if you don’t try and for me it was a wake-up call that I had to make some changes and start taking some risks with trying new foods. I added one food at a time and kept a detailed weight record to see if/what anything was helping. Just some things to consider implementing to help with weight once your boy is feeling a bit better. Hugs to the little guy, he sure is cute.
Just saw this, LPT. Hope Bindi Loo is still doing better and not symptoms of EC have presented themselves. I will keep him on my mind.
Glad Bindi is showing some improvement. Would alfalfa upset his stomach?
LPT All my bunnies have their paws crossed and we are saying prayers and sending ((((((((Healing Vibes))))))))
Hoping for a more current update on Bindi Loo if you have time LPT?
Hey guys,
Thanks for the continued vibes and prayers. Bindi is touched that you are all thinking of him.
***Knocking on wood*** He is doing well. Got him back on a small amount of pellets. Lots of well-sized poops, good energy level, etc. Put him on the scale on Sunday and he’s 4,12 so he’s got quite a bit of weight to gain back. Thank you for the tips on that TBPony. I will mention your suggestions to my vet if he doesn’t start gaining soon. He’s had small amounts of alfalfa in the past. When Stormy was sick, I bought some and gave some to Bindi as a treat.
He’s so super sensitive that I’m very afraid to change his diet.
Called my vet yesterday. Still no results yet from his ear culture, which is frustrating, because I’m pretty sure they are infected AGAIN. At my whit’s end with those ears. And his runny eyes are back. They had cleared up when he was on antibiotics (the oral Baytril for his sinus inflammation that showed up on the Xray). After the stasis, he had 2 doses left but the vet opted to stop it. Now they are runny again.
That bunny is just a mystery. A really cute, fluffy, expensive mystery.
keeping the vibes going for beautiful Bindy.
Happy to hear he’s eating well again.
I’ll keep him in my thoughts for his ears and runny eyes! Poor little man.
