Hi there I bought raffia today from the craft store michaels. I was wondering if it is ok to use to make my rabbit homemade toys. It says on the package it is natural raffia. The color is tan? thanks

I’m pretty sure raffia is safe. I learned that sissel is also safe, and they are both similar in their use in toys.

I would try to limit the quantity of the raffia you use, and if the main part of the toy is destroyed (with fun) then remove the raffia from the play area so it isn’t chewed on as an afterthought. But if it’s just tying up a safe toy, it should be OK.

If it isn’t dyed, it should be okay for use with chew toys.

I did open the raffia today and it does have a smell not a floral smell. Is raffia suppose to have a smell?

What does it smell like? I always thought raffia smelled a bit like hay. To me it does anyway.

Hmm, raffia I have bought isn’t wrapped in plastic. Could it be the plastic that smelled funny?

I did call the company about the raffia they did call me back and said they fumigate it so there are no insects in it. So I got my answer that it is not safe.
