Hello there, this is my second or third post on here. My boyfriend bought me a small white dwarf rabbit for easter, and she was taken from her mom way too young, and is currently being weened off of a bottle. Yesterday My boyfriend, and I went to the gym, and tanning from 5:00-7:00. WHen we came back my boyfriends 11 year old brother let my bunny out of her cage, and she was inside of the males cage . I was furious, and crying after examing my bunny to see her opening was slightly red, and bleeding, and the scruff of her neck was wet. I can’t believed this happened. I cleaned her up, and I brought her to my mom who raised/breed holland lops for 7 years, and she was fine. I fed her a bottle, and I don’t really understand what started to happen she started closing her eyes, and laying down.. it was so strange. My mom then picked her up, and shook her around to get her blood flowing. This morning I went into her cage, and she ate all of her hay, and i gave her a few pellets, and she closed one eye, and begun to do the same thing! please help? I have no clue whats going on. I’m so upset, and please don’t be rude.

I would get her to a vet immediately for an exam.

Yes, please get her examined by a rabbit vet today. That behavior is not normal.

I emailed my local vet, and I’m looking to take her today. Please keep her in your thoughts today. I’m so scared for her. Thanks guys. I think she might have gotten a little milk drunk, but i’m taking her anyway. Thank you so much

Sorry for late reply Alice has been very busy…Keeping me busy.

She went to the doctor, and he checked her out she seemed fine. He told me to keep an eye on her water intake because she may have been dehydrated (from pet shop, and prior care), and she may be the runt (Although she is a Netherland Dwarf , and is the runt.. she has an appetite, and isn’t picky .)

So on the other hand it looks asthough she may be expecting… …. What can you do? she is doing wonderful, and got a new cage… she didn’t like the larger cage she was put in so I got her a “small one”, but she goes out on walks in her harness, and cuddles with mommy everynight before bed.

Thank you all for positive vibes! she, and I really appreciate it, and she would love to give you all a big kiss.. (idk why, but she licks everybody…oh well)

I’m really glad she’s doing better.

Have you considered getting her an emergency spay? If you got her as a baby for easter then she is  way too young to have babies. Most breeders don’t breed this early because the risk of birthing complications are high and possibly fatal. You’d have to talk to your vet ASAP so it doesn’t get too late in the pregnancy.

EDIT: In your other post you said she was 6 weeks old so that would make her 9 1/2 weeks old now? Are you sure she’s expecting that seems REALLY young for a bunny to be able to get pregnant.

Why would you think she would be expecting? It is highly unlikely she would be at 9 1/2 weeks old…

Maybe I missed this, but how old is she? Rabbits can eat on their own by 5 weeks or so, and if you’re still bottle feeding her I assume she must be very young. If she’s older, she probably doesn’t need the bottle anymore, but unless she has gone through puberty (usually 5-7 months for females) it’s not possible that she’s pregnant.

I haven’t looked into spaying, and we’re not 100% sure she is pregnant.. she isn’t acting different, and my mom breed, and raised rabbits, and has been looking for symptoms. If male bunnies aren’t taken from their moms soon enough from their mom they can impregnate her at like 6 weeks. I think she could be because of what happened with her and the other rabbit.. so i’m not really sure yet. I went to where my boyfriend got her, and asked for an age, and the lady didn’t even know. ugh. she also hasn’t had a bottle for a while.. so yeah.

She can not get pregnant until she’s gone through puberty which generally happens at 4-6 months for a girl and 3-4 months for a boy. 6 weeks is too early to separate a baby bunny from it’s mom. They shouldn’t be taken away from their mother’s until 8 weeks.

In your post you said you took her to a vet, is that vet rabbit savvy? If not, then you should find a vet that specializes in rabbits so that she can get proper treatment if something comes up again. They can also usually give you an educated guess at age and more information about spaying her. Female rabbits have an 85% chance of getting uterine cancer when they are not spayed, so it’s a really good thing to get done.

Who owns the male rabbit in the house? If you’re bunny is not old enough to get pregnant she will be very soon. You can get the male neutered which would also help prevent any pregnancies or incidents like this in the future.
