         Hi everyone.

New bunny owner here. I bought two does last Thursday so I have had them only 4/5 days.  I have noticed some really soft almost wet looking droppings. They are both eating well but I’m wondering if they are having too much veg or the wrong veg.

I have been giving them a floret of broccoli and small slither of carrot with about 2 dandelion leaves each . Do you think that is too much or is it they maybe aren’t used to them.

Please help I am worried I’m not doing something right.

How old are they? Have you taken them to the vet since you brought them home for a fecal exam?

What is the rest of their diet like? What veggies were they eating in their previous home?

Yes to the questions that Beka asked. If you can answer those we can help you.

No matter what though you need to take them to the vet for a baseline exam and a fecal test.

I suggest doing an image search of cecotropes to check if that’s what you are seeing. These are the normal soft droppings that rabbits re-ingest. We don’t normally see them but they can sometimes over produce them.

              Beka mentioned in another post:

Rabbit breeders treat their “breeding stock” and the babies with a diluted medication to control Coccidia. The dose is usually too low so it CONTROLS it, but does not CURE it.

So when a rabbit leaves that environment, after some time their symptoms of coccidia (if have it) can then suddenly present. So i also encourage you get them examined by a vet if their normal poos are looking soft and mushy. Would be wise to have their general health checked & sexes confirmed by vet also.

Bambam, the Excel nuggets are a type if pellet feed available in the UK.

Natsbunnies, were they eating this at the store also? I have read comments several times by owners reporting that brand caused soft droppings for some reason.

Ditto about the hay. This should be 90% of their diet and available at all times.

Yes they always have hay available which they graze on. I think they eat the straw bedding too. They were on the same food in the store so they said . But I did read someone else said this brand gave their rabbits runny poo. This morning the poo was very soft and wet looking it seems to have improved throughout the day. I just don’t want to cut out any food in case they don’t get enough . They always rush to me at feeding times

What are other available brands in the UK? Is there a better brand they could be switched on to?

I’m not entirely sure . Maybe I should start introducing a new one . I might try the vets first and see what they say . Thank you for your advice and help really appreciate it.
