So mum said that she thought I should ask dad about making Apollos cage bigger! She said she thought I shouldn’t be afraid to ask my own father a question, so I waited till he got home, and he seemed in a really good mood, so I explained about just using the space where his current cage is and around it, so Apollo would get the extra room! I then suggested an xpen. Dad told me that the area where Apollos hay is, was really messy, so then I said “Well, if I keep that area clean, would you consider letting me make his cage bigger?” And dad said “Hm, okay, you keep it clean, and I’ll think about it!”

        DING DING DING! Breakthrough!

        So proud right now!!

          Cool! It’s a step!

What are your plans to keep the hay area clean? What is the problem with the hay per se?

I just need to vacuum it once a week! When I fill his litter tray the little pieces go everywhere!

That seems pretty simple. If the hay is in his cage, you might also try weaving a sheet of cardboard through the bars around where the litterbox is to minimize what gets kicked out. Otherwise, a small hand vac is amazing to pick up small bits of hay, litter, or poos.

Yeah, it’s not in or near his cage, it’s in a big storage tub in the front room! When I grab a handful to carry it through, the little floaty pieces fall everywhere. I just have to use the vacuum to suck them all up once a week, not too much of a difficulty, especially if it gets Apollo a bigger cage!

Do you have an old shoebox? I have filled up a shoebox before to carry hay to the pen without dropping everywhere. Very simple solution.
