Before I moved to the north east I had two rats. One was named Darius (dar-ee-us) and another was named Chewy.

I had to rehome them because a three day drive would have been way too stressful for the two. The new owners were kind enough to keep me updated on him.

Well I was just informed that Chewy had to be put down today. He developed a tumor on his cheek 6 months ago and they had it surgically removed and it has come back even bigger and they felt it best to have him put down because it grew back so fast and twice the size. Poor Chewy! He was only 3 years old.

He was seriously the coolest rat I have ever had. He would seriously play fetch! I would throw the dog toy and Chewy would chase after it! He couldn’t bring it back because the toy was too big lol but he would run to and climb on top of it as if he were king of the mountain! I have a video of it somewhere. I may come back to update it if I can find my old laptop.

He was my cuddle bug giving me lots of kisses. I will miss him even though I wasn’t there for the latter of his life. I know a lot of people have misconceptions about rats but I knew what great pets they made and I will miss that little guy

This is the toy we would always play fetch with

And then him with pooh bear

        R.I.P. Chewy

Aw, it always really sucks to lose a pet, even if you didn’t have them for their whole lifespan. It was really kind of his new family to inform you about his passing away, and to generally keep you updated.

I think rats are really good pets in general, also they are very intelligent. It is believed that they can read people’s emotions. They are also very social animals, and form strong bonds, so they can be extra cuddly It bugs me when anyone second guesses an animal by appearance or popular media! Anyways, I think rats are really cute, especially Chewy.

I’m sure Chewy will be missed! And it shows a really good family if they went out of their way to pay for the surgery, as vet costs are really expensive, and many people sadly would give up the first time. You lucked out with the re-homing, even if Chewy couldn’t enjoy more years with them and you, he still enjoyed all three.

Aw I’m sorry NBO. Such saddening news for you. : (

Thanks for sharing these pictures. He looks completely sweet! I don’t have much experience with rats but I’m repeatedly told how smart they are. And I always find them so entertaining to watch.
Your dogs are so great around the small pets!

            Rest in Peace little Chewy.

My condolences. Chewy was a beautiful little rat. I think rats are wonderful little critters and deserve much more respect.

I am sorry about Chewy. That is actually a great long life for a rat. I used to own 5 rats at one time. They are wonderful animals. My oldest rat was about 3 years old. She was my baby. I loved her so much.

                  RIP Chewy!
