        Hello everyone,

I am due to pick up baby rabbit soon. I am just wondering whether i should get 1 or 2? The thing is, one is normal healthy baby but the other is runt. I love the runt because she is so small, but i also in love with the other litter. She is super cute too.

The breeder said that she dont actually want to sell the runt, because it’s too small (she is 1/3 the size of her sis). So she said if i want both i can have the runt for free because she thought that i would take a good care of both of them.

I just need convincing whether i should get 1 or 2?

I read somewhere that if i get 2, the bunny will less incline to bond with me?

plus im working full time would only probably have time for them in the morning before i leave for work, and after work.

I would want the bunny to be able to bond with me normally (like love being petted etc)

        Please help!

Two baby bunnies is a lot of work and expense. They would not be able to be housed together past about 4 or 5 months when they reach sexual maturity and their hormones develop, so you would need two separate cages for awhile. And then at 6 months, they would both need to be spayed. Do you have a rabbit vet lined up yet, and do you know what he/she charges for spaying rabbits?

If I were you, I’d start with one; get her home, bond with her yourself, get her spayed. Figure out if you really are a rabbit person before committing to a second.

I agree with Beka. I am a sucker for runts and have trouble leaving them, but you are almost certainly going to have vet expenses from the start if there is a health problem underlying it. The breeder essentially is getting the runt off their hands and you are assuming responsibility for it under these terms, so you can’t even get help from the breeder down the road when things need medical attention because you knowingly agreed to take this poor bunny.

I would take the healthy one you already want and bond with it. Get a vet to check out your new little bunny, set up your home and learn about bunny life slowly with one for now. Sibling bunnies do not bond when their hormones kick in anyway. Opposite sex bunnies can get a female pregnant much younger than you might think or want, so there is a real risk in housing them together for more than a month or two.

And be assured that a single bunny will be very comfortable and adapt well to your work schedule. They sleep deeply midday as well as at night and are most active at dawn and dusk. That’s when you get up for work and come home later. It’s a perfect pet for working people, as long as you give your attention to your bunny for about a total of 2-4 hours a day during those times. They love routines, so your morning routine can adapt well to feeding, cleaning and exercise, while you can feed clean and play in the early evening as well. (I mean select when certain tasks happen and stick to a schedule.) Your bunny will feel safe and happy, and you will see that after a couple of weeks.

i did not know that sister bunny is not a match.i read somewhere that female bunny is actually a good pair?hmmmmm

if in the future im thinking of getting a new baby bunny, what do you think is the best age for my current bunny? i heard matured bunny dont like baby bunny?
the baby bunny that i want to get is netherland dwarf does
and possibly in the future mini lop bucks
                is this good match?

also i heard that female is less friendly than males?

gosh this is harder than choosing degree in university.

I agree to some extent with health concerns but as to siblings, not so much. Whilst Nermal and Pipi loathe each other, Nermal was separated for several months before being returned by the family that adopted her. In this time Blossom and Pipi remained together. They are now over 1 yr old and still adore each other and their Mum and Dad. I regularly go in to the bunny room to find them all piled together snuggling. So, Yes, siblings can fight but siblings also bond. Blossom would be devastated with out Pipi. Nermal still gets kisses from Mum Pepper, sister Blossom and Daddy Piglet through the bars of the Xpen and if was not for Pipi warrior princess I probably could have rebonded the entire family in one weekend. If the runt is bonded with her sister I would not leave her behind.

Are you planning on spaying and neutering any of the bunnies you get?

Are you planning on keeping your new rabbit inside? I noticed you mentioned your last rabbit dug out and ran away – I hope you are keeping your new one inside full-time.

I would go for one to start out with and really, either sex is good. I don’t find females to be any more or any less friendly than males.

As far as matches – it is really up to your rabbit to decide on their new friend – that is what makes a good match.
