I’m getting a holland lop that is just 12 weeks old, the house rabbit society doesn’t include fruit to such age’s diet.

So what can I use for his treats and what amounts? Is fruit not allowed or something? because I can’t buy manufactured rabbit treats (won’t find them).

I’ve never had a baby bun ( even though I want one! ) but you could try alfalfa hay, or order a treat off the internet ( they sell some nice looking ones on this site ) If he loves his rabbit pellets, or you are weaning him off unhealthy rabbit mixes, they make very good treats. You don’t necessarily need treats at such a young age though. Fruit and veggies aren’t allowed until your rabbit is 4 months old, and even then only a tiny bit.

Alfalfa hay is available all the time in his hay rack, so would it be really any special treat to him?
Also, HRS says to start veggies at 12 weeks, why do you say 4 months?

Veggies can be started at any age, but in limited amounts. Fruit can also be fed but a very small bit.

Ah, as I said, I’ve never had baby bunnies, but I know someone who has, and she said 4 months?????????? The books I’ve read have all said different ages though

You can start small amounts of fruit for a bun that age. Craisins and raisins are also popular treats – I cut them into tiny pieces so the bunnies think they are getting a bunch.

Regular pellets can also be a really good treat. Mine go crazy for pellets, even though they get them twice a day as part of their meals.
