The two new baby bunnies came with an oat mixture.

Should they be eating this oat mixture? What’s the purpose of it?

No, no, no. No oats for bunnies. Oats and other grains are sold as rabbit food at farm supplies and such (where a lot of easter bunnies come from) but they aren’t good for rabbits. Alfalfa hay and a young rabbit pellet, if they are 12+ weeks you could introduce veggies slowly. I would probably wait though since you are unsure of age and they have been stressed out moving twice.

And grrrrr at people who buy easter bunnies and dump them day after!

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking but I wanted to double check.

I’m hoping my vet can give me a better clue on ages when I take them in for their check up.

              Definitely no oats.

That’s bizarre that he bought baby English Lops and is getting rid of them after a day. ELs aren’t “standard rabbits”, you can’t get them in a regular pet store typically. So he must have actually sought out a breeder. I wonder why he’d go through the trouble only to rehome them right away.

Beka – Unfortunately I had been noticing ads for “Easter Rabbits” on craigslist selling baby EL’s. I think they must have come from one of those breeders.

I have seen bunnies like that, though I didn’t know their breed, at local farm stores where I grew up. They put them in outdoor cages and sell them for like $10 for a non-lop and $20 for a lop on Easter. So, any bun can breed can become victim to Easter exploitation. Around here, they’ve been advertising flemmies for Easter for the last month.
