So, I need some help. I got this little bunny two days ago, she was in need of a home because her owner couldn’t take care of her anything. She said that she was litter trained, so I’ve done everything the same as it was before but she won’t poop in her litter box! She is peeing in there, but she won’t poop in it! What should I do? Should I just act as if I was retraining her? I’ve done a lot of research, but this is my first bunny, so I’d like responses from people who are experienced with bunnies.

          Welcome : )

I have some questions in the hopes the answers might help figure out how to help.

          1) Do you know how old age is?

          2) Is this in her cage or when out and about?

          3) Is there bedding on the floor of the cage? (I.e like small pet bedding that’s sold in pet stores)

          4) Does she have hay? Is the hay in the litterbox or elsewhere in her cage?

          5) Do you have other pets she might see or smell?

Being only a few days in a new home, it might just be territorial marking of her cage. Often this stops. Sweeping up the droppings and placing them in the litter box is a good idea.

Let me just add that you can take all of her poos from wherever she leaves them and put them into the litter box as soon as you see them. If she’s just done it, scoop her up and set her in her litter pan as well. If she poops in there at least once, praise her and pet her. You’re telling her that they belong in there every time. You can even give her a small treat (a raisin) if she goes in the pan to poo. It really helps them to get the idea. They’re smart and learn fast. (Don’t punish her for doing it outside the box. It won’t work.)

P.S. If she was good before, then she’s possibly marking your home a bit to make it “hers” and when she feels she’s done that she may revert to good habits with your help.
