        Hey guys,

im getting my first bunny soon. I have absolutely NO past with bunnies, and just need some advice. I also want to know: does the environment where they live affect their life span dramatically? I’m not allowed to have my bunn inside. We will have a spacious pen for her/him. It’s also almost summer/spring time and where I live it’s not too cold, and never too hot. Also would just like some advice that maybe I haven’t gotten yet. Anything to help me get my bunn healthy is good advice.

           Thanx

            Welcome,
We are a House Rabbit website, so we strongly advocate housing your bunny indoors for numerous reasons. That said, if you want some excellent advice from food to habitats to what to expect in behavior or costs, I urge you to start at the Home page of Binkybunny and read each section of information from the links, photos and drop down menus. You will learn a great deal about how to get started and have a healthy bunny who will be a companion for at least a decade. After thoroughly reading the site, check out the forums for more specific questions members have asked. I guarantee you that most of your current questions will be answered before your next post.

P.S. as for responses, it’s different times around the world and both the Forum leaders and the members are spread out globally. It is common for your post to wait at least a few hours before someone else checks the site to read your post. In case of a medical emergency for your bunny, NEVER wait for a reply. Always call a vet.

Rabbits need to be kept at temperatures between 40-80 degrees F and must be dry at all times. If it is ever colder or hotter than that, you will HAVE TO bring the rabbit into a climate controlled space. The heat is especially dangerous. If you do not have an alternate location to move your bunny in case of extreme temperatures or storms, please skip getting a bunny and wait until you live somewhere where you can provide adequate housing.

Thank guys. it’s not too hot or cold where I live but if it does get into extremes, the people I live with are real softies, and well probably end up with a house rabbit anyways.

beka27 some bunnies can withstand rain, Vienna doesn’t mind light drizzles, and shakes/licks herself dry like a dog ( i don’t force her outside, I try to get her back in, but she runs around like a loony and hides under the table where she knows I can’t get her :b) as for climate control : http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/warm-weather.html, http://www.rabbitrehome.org.uk/care/winter.asp You could probably make a temporary indoor home out of a large cardboard box, or buy a cheap indoor rabbit home from a charity shop, or EBAY ( be sure to disinfect it with small pet or baby safe disinfectant if it’s second hand ) The environment were they live doesn’t drastically affect their lifespan, indoor bunnies get diseases recognized quicker, outdoor bunnies won’t pick up scraps of human food etc try making toys for your bun, once upon a pig, and budget bunny have some good ideas. Don’t feed muslea mixes, rabbit proof your garden, check for foxes, badgers, weasels in the area, even if they don’t get your bun they might scare the poor thing to death, neuter your bun, it prevents some cancers and gets rid of hormones, if your bunny is going to live outside I’d recommend getting them a friend ( look on the bonding page for more information) if your bunny refuses to eat take them to the vets immediately, get them vaccinated ( call your local vet for more information on what vaccination, how many times a year etc ) feed two handfuls of veg a day, don’t give treats that aren’t vegan and give your bun a hutch that’s at least longer than 6 feet, and taller than them standing up. Sorry for the information overload. That’s some of the basics, but get a bunny book out the libarry/buy one for even more information.
