I have spent lots of time looking at wire covers online and finally ended up getting the corrugated plastic wire loom tubing.  I had written the manufacturer to ask if it was bunny proof but after reading that some use it I went ahead and ordered yesterday.  Naturally got an email this morning that no, he does not consider it chew proof, and sent me a link to the citrus infused stuff.  I know the smell of that would bother us not to mention the cost is prohibitive.  I’d love to hear people’s experience with various covers.  Has anyone gotten plain medical tubing and split it themselves?  It will mostly be for lamp cords.

It depends what you mean by “proof.” My bun will go after anything plastic, wood, paper based, etc. So, there isn’t really anything that’s bunny proof other than blocking it off. That said, I have the plastic wire loom type and it’s a deterrent and has worked fairly well. Only had issues in the beginning and it’s not tasty any more. Every month or so though, I double check to see if there are any holes and double up on those areas if necessary.

I think the experience with different buns will be different (I’ve heard some buns loving the citrus plastic covers) and you just have to try to find what works for you.

Thanks Miaeih, I don’t think Panda will be too aggresive with the wire covers. She is pretty good. I would just love to have her in the living room fairly often and not have to worry about watching her every second. She always stops when I say no but of course it only takes one good chomp. 🙂

My hubby used a plastic conduit he bought from HomeDepot to wrap the lamp cords. He hasn’t had to fix the lamp cords since 🙂

For places with a lot of wires (such as behind the tv/stereo), I would just block off the entire area – those modular storage grids do a great job. However, for free-standing furniture, corrugated plastic tubing does the trick. I imagine that split rubbing tubing would work too. Of course, a determined bunny will be able to chew through most soft covers, but if Panda is pretty well-behaved I imagine it shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m fortunate to be married to a carpenter –  this is what he built to protect wires behind outv console and computer desks.  I asked him to paint it black – so it would blend in.
