        Hi,

We have a bonded pair of bunnies (one dutch, one lop) that share a cage and have free roaming rights of the first floor level of our house for most of every day. We have just acquired a new guinea pig and while I have no intention of ever housing the piggie with the rabbits – she has her own separate cage – I wondered whether anyone has any experience of introducing a guinea pig to rabbits for any play time. We got our rabbits at separate times and I had to go through the bonding process myself which at the time I found quite stressful even though I don’t think there was anything particularly unusual about how it went. There was initially a LOT of fighting (they are fully loved up now) and I am nervous about putting this tiny (comparatively) guinea pig down anywhere near the bunnies in case one of them really hurt her. Obviously I would not leave the guinea’s side for even a second while she is out with the bunnies but I wondered whether anyone had any advice/info on how this is likely to go down.

        Thanks!

I have never tried to introduce bunnies with piggies, but my friend owns both, they can look at each other, and don’t seem to bother much that the other one’s around, unlike the piggys rumble strutting at each other . I would recommend getting your guinea pig a guinea pig friend, instead of a bunny friend, for play time, a bunny is more likely to kill a guinea pig than another bunny. One angry bunny kicking out could break your poor piggies neck. Guinea pigs can’t communicate with bunnies, so they can’t give/understand submissive signals, going to attack signals etc. If you do want to go ahead I’d recommend lots of piggie sized places to hide, and an increased bonding process ( as it’s much more dangerous ) You’ll probably have to do all the translating for them and act accordingly as soon as you know what they are ‘saying’.

I agree with bunnylova. While I’ve heard of some bunnies getting along with guinea pigs, I don’t recommend it. A bunny can really injure a GP and GP’s really can’t defend themselves.
