        Hello All!

Just introducing myself, and my new bun, Ruby.  I live in a rural area, and have a really tough time uploading photos, so at present, I don’t have any.  I just picked Ruby up from the feed store (saw her when I went to buy chicken feed, and had a moment of weakness).  I’m not sure what breed she is, or even what age.  She has lop-ears, weighs 3 lbs, and has a soft angora-like coat.

I haven’t had rabbits since I was a child, and I am fairly sure that they weren’t properly cared for, so learning about bunnies has taken up a lot of my time in the past week.  I’ve kept rescued guinea pigs for the last 6 years or so, and am presently down to one lonely boar.

I noticed that Ruby had no access to hay or water in the hutch at the feed store.  Brought her home, and within a day she had a crusty nose (but no sneezing).  I’ve since been feeding her Oxbow hay/pellets and lots of leafy greens and what I thought might be snuffles seems to have cleared up.  I have some Vet-Rx (Rabbit) on the way and also some Vetri-DMG (which I have used with much success for heart-pigs.)  Still weighing her, and she hasn’t gained any weight, but is eating/drinking happily.

Glad to have her, and hope to learn as much about rabbits as I know about guinea pigs.  Glad to have found this forum!

            Hi and Welcome to BB!

I’m glad you brought Ruby home. Feed stores tend to see bunnies as hutch animals, not house bunnies the way they should be. My local feed store sells those tiny square metal cages for bunnies. Very sad that any bunny should ever live in those.

This is a great place to learn and meet rabbit lovers.
