        Quick question!

When bonding bunnies, do they share the same litter tray or do they each have separate ones? Same with food bowls etc?

Do you mean when bonding in neutral territory or once they are bonded and put in their mutual shared territory together?

When bonding bunnies – you don’t want them to have any thing they can consider their own and they should only be spending supervised time together – so neither food bowls or litter boxes should be necessary or even optional until they are closer to establishing a bond.

They haven’t met yet, I meant when they’re bonded. Do they both use the same litter tray? I know to swap the litter trays to help them get used to each other’s scent

I use the same litter box for my bunnies but it depends on your bunnies and the litter box. If they are going to share a litter box than make sure that it is big enough for them to both fit in it. You still might need a second litter box though because some dominant bunnies will kick the other one out.

My two have always had 2 boxes, but they both use both boxes all the time… It’s not “his and hers”. The other option is to get one very large box, perhaps use a cage bottom or under the bed storage container.

Agreed with the others. My four bonded buns have three litter boxes (one is giant enough for them all to fit in). They have never had issues fighting over the litter boxes but you should start off with two and then eliminate one if the buns are getting along in the same box. It really depends on them and how they act towards each other.

As with food bowls, you should start off with two bowls (separated) to make sure one isn’t stopping the other from eating. I have four bunnies so I use three bowls but they’ve never had a problem with fighting over food and will usually all eat out of the same bowl anyways. It really just depends on your bunnies and how they act after bonding!

When I had a bonded pair, I fed them pellets in one of those divided doggy bowls that are supposed to have one side for food and the other for water, since Peppy would just stick her nose in the bowl and keep it in there until the food was all gone, and Milo could hardly get his snout in lol.

Btw, just saw your post about adopting another bun – so excited for you!

Mine have three litter boxes. They both use all three, but if Stickers goes to the box and Powder can easily get to her, he jumps in to hump her, which makes her jump out. So, one is on one side of their space, the other is on the opposite side and one is up in the air where they have to jump up to get it (Stickers jumps easier / more often than Powder). This gives my pair sufficient room and privacy during box use. Otherwise, poor Stickers isn’t able to use the litter box at all.

But, my pair is abnormal. Most are OK sharing a box. Mine do share a food dish and water bowl.

Hi Chocobanana and wellcome to the BB Forums!

This is an old thread from 2013 and we ask members not to post in threads more than a year old. You will get much better help if you start a thread of your own. If you have trouble doing that, let me know!
