I have read a couple articles about people who will walk their buns in pet strollers. I don’t think this is a good idea, but I was wondering what you guys thought.

Meh. Rabbits generally like to be in their own space, so I don’t really think that would be enjoyable for THEM, but would be more stressful. I’d skip it.

That just sounds weird. I even find it weird when people want to walk their dogs in strollers! It’s like you’re taking the joy out of the walk for the dog. lol or they have that thing that they wear like a back pack except you where it in the front to carry a baby? Yeah, they also make some for dogs! lol poor dogs, I’m sure they’d much rather walk lol

I think a pet stroller would be stressful for a bunny :/

Yeah… being “out” isn’t fun for your average rabbit. I know at least 2 of my buns would freak out, the other 2 would probably be nervous at first, but probably end up disinterested afterwards.

I have heard mixed reviews. Some people like to take their bunnies to events like bun runs or agility. They use a stroller instead of a carrier so the bunny is secure and they don’t have to lug them around. I suppose it would be convenient for something like that as long as your bun tolerated it. Otherwise I don’t see much reason to take them for walks in the park like you would a dog.

NewBunnyOwner – Haha! Sometimes the dogs really do want to be in those strollers. I think my dog would have liked one since she never really wanted to walk very far and we would always have to carry her once she got tired.

I use a modified stroller and put the carrier on top when I take my buns to the vet ( it’s only a couple of minutes down the road ) because it makes the ride smoother ( they hate the car ) it’s better than holding the carrier because it swings around a bit, and stresses them out. I know that’s not the same as what you’re talking about though.

I agree with most. My buns would be petrified in a stroller. Not a bunnie’s idea of a good time. I think maybe the rare, super laid back bunny might enjoy a stroller but not the average bunny. I thought about getting one for bonding stressing.

I have a few friends that travel with their rabbits, but the buns have been doing it since they were little, so they are adapted to it. Most rabbits do not approve of places that are unfamiliar to them, so I don’t even try to travel with Chacha bun haha.

For dogs, it totally depends on the dog. My Mother has a chihuahua and we took her on some nature walks with my poodle mix and my poodle mix was always pulling at the lead, wanting to go this way and that way, getting annoyed I didn’t walk faster because she had to wait for me. The chihuahua… every single time she ended up just flat out stopping after going like half way and my Mother had to carry her. She just refused to budge. She also goes outside in the yard and if it’s even got morning dew on the grass, she’ll put one paw on the grass and run back inside. Or, if you put her down on the grass trying to make her use the bathroom outside, she’ll stand there with as many paws in the air as she can manage without falling over and just look miserable with eyes half closed and this totally disgusted look on her face. A stroller would fit her NICELY. lol

For a bunny, both my rabbits would freak out about it. Stickers especially. Would be very stressful.

I know my bunnies would be freaked out, but that’s not to say that there aren’t some bunnies that would enjoy the sights and smells from the safety of an enclosed space as they travel. I have seen some bunnies in strollers at bunnyfest events and some seem really just fine with it, while others seem terrified. So really, I just think it’s best to pay close attention to your bunny’s reaction — know how to read the signs of stress, as some people seem to mistake it for excitement and joy. So it really is up the how the bunny reacts. I’m not a huge fan of it, but I am not closed to the possibility that it would be okay for another bunny.

Apollo is very laid back. Rides in the car in his carrier don’t bother him, he moves around and eats and lays down. It really doesn’t phase him, he even faces the way the cars going, even if his carrier door faces me so I can watch him! I’d never waste money, or put the possible extra stress on him in buying one of those things though. I think they’re pretty pointless to be honest. Almost as if we’re trying to make our pets as lazy as us, or show them off if you like. And if there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s a show off! Sure, be proud of achievements, but there’s a line between being proud, and showing off! Haha!

I’d really like a stroller for my buns. I think it’s pretty sad and unnatural that they have to stay indoors and with a stroller, they can be closer to nature. Of course, the strollers I’d like to have are the uber trail/hike ones so I can take them “hiking”; or rather, they can keep me company. Not sure how worth it those are since they cost a pretty penny. Also, another thing is people with dogs who aren’t well behaved; it’d be awful if someone’s dog just came up and started barking.

I do think they are good for disabled dogs or old dogs. They can still get stimulation of a walk and socialise with other dogs. For rabbits, I would only use as a necessity. Like vet visit if car is not an option etc. I don’t think it would be an enjoyable recreational thing for a rabbit.
