So my two dogs were sniffing my bunny more than usual last night.  I thought that maybe he was having a cecal issue and perhaps was not as clean as he should be.  I cleaned out his glands and he had some matted cecal? that looked like it was blocking his bottom. I even took advantage of  the situation and clipped his nails.  I put him down and he stumbled and my heart jumped.  He stumbled again later (just hind legs).  I got up at 2AM, let him out and he was definitely wobbly, but he has been eating and hanging out outside and trying to be a normal rabbit.  Got up for work and let him out again and he wsa now even more stumbly and having a hard time. By the time i dropped my daughter off and picked him up he was nodding (head tilt).  Poor guy.  Vet said on a scale of 1-10 he is a three but this is scary.  He stayed today for observation and they are pleased.  I have read a lot of stories and i hope he gets better quickly.

Aw, I hope he comes good soon. Has the vet checked out his ears for infection at all?
Did they suggest anything as to the cause of the messy poop? Important to get that sorted out as a messy bottom can attract flies so then there’s risk if fly strike.

A bit of stress can also cause a rabbit to be a bit off, but it’s not always avoidable- especially when things like gland cleans and nail trims are required.

Does the vet say what could be the cause of the head tilt? Possible ear infection?

Do you mean outside as in outside the house (it doesn’t sound like it but I want to be sure).

Thanks, Vet thinks it’s an ear infection but I don’t think he saw discharge or anything like that. I got him to the vet asap so dr is hopeful that there will be a quick recovery. He’s treating the inflamation, antibiotics (baytril) and motion sickness… sounds pretty standard first line approach so we shall see how he does. My guess about his bum is that he was too dizzy to clean himself since when he tried to clean his foot he toppled over. It was not matted in his fur and his normal poops were perfect/normal. So I’m guessing the dogs probably could smell the cecals more than usual. His head tilt was worse last night but this morning was better. I have 36-48 hours before the medicine really kicks in.

If it’s not an ear infection, im wondering if he maybe fell off one of the layers in his house and hit his head. My other guess is related to a nasal discharge he gets on and off. Everytime he gets Timothy Hay his eyes get red and puffy and nose gets dischargy. He’s on Oat hay and he clears up so we believe its allergies, however I am saving up to take him to a specialist to check his nose and teeth for other issues.

We have a porch area where the rabbits can go outside. There is an area with pebbles where they can dig and half of the porch has bunny chews and fun stuff. My garden is gated off but they like to eat the herbs that grow through the gate, so they help me keep the garden trim I also throw some of their hay seeds in one of the bins and give them fresh green hay saplings as a nice little treat. Sometimes they like to bask in the sunlight.

It’s good that you brought him in right away. My lop had a mild tilt and wobbliness and with aggressive, immediate treatment, he was better in less than a week.

Is the antibiotic oral or topical?

The anitbiotic is oral. I talked to the vet about his progress yesterday. Less head tilt going on. Today he is more or less walking in a striaght line. I clarified with the vet if he thought it was an ear infection and he said he didn’t know, there were no signs that he could see that it was an ear infection :/ He is treating the symptoms. I’m somewhat upset but this is because my partner said he would not pay a lot of money to try to figure out what was wrong with him and I don’t have the finances to pay for it and since my partner is the bread maker, so I hope this works. He is bonded so even if things went south we can’t get another bunny to bond since we have two dogs and a 4 month old…. Anyways, the good progress I feel is hopeful.
