I got a 4 year old lop, called Oreo, from a rescue centre to be my 6 year old lion head rex , called Vienna’s husbun ( she sadly lost her other husbun due to illness ) but the rescue person said he wouldn’t eat veggies. He had only been this very sweet muesli in the home where he was rescued from. He will eat carrots and dried rabbit ‘salad’ but still doesn’t realise that veg is food!I am slowly converting him to the healthier pellets and that is going quite well. I am hoping that Vienna will teach him but that will not be for a couple of weeks as they are still being bonded. Has anyone got any tips?

My rabbit would only eat muesli and carrots and dandelion-greens when I first found him. So I had to introduce veggies a little at a time and it took a long time before he’d even try f ex parsley, kale, spinach and fresh herbs. He was grown up when I found him and I don’t know how his life had been before that. I suppose he just wasn’t used to veggies.

Your rabbit is probably still a little bewildered by his new environment and you and Vienna and perhaps new food is just one new thing too many? Does he eat hay?

Sally was VERY hard to get to try veggies. As soon as I limited her pellets and sprinkled a few pellets in the salad (she LOVES pellets) hoping she would accidentally munch on a veggie while foraging for pellets and realize how tasty they were. Lets just say she now loves her veggies! When I put in a new type though she gets skeptical so I always put a topper of something she favors to help motivate her.

What is bunny muesli? I only know the human kind of muesli cereal, lol! Does it contain any sort of colorful substances in it?

My bunny was very fussy with vegetables at first. Have you tried the green romaine, red leaf, or green leaf lettuce? When I cut down on pellets, she began to eat more vegetables.

Yes, he loves his hay! I have hardly seen him stop eating it!

Bunny muesli is like pellets but it’s selective, and yes it’s very colourful, very much made for humans rather than bunnies

What kind of veggies have you tried?

I’ve tried cauliflower leaf, cabbage and spinach, but only really the cauliflower. I brought the cabbage and spinach in because it was the rabbit he was being bonded with’s feeding time.

Try something different, like a nice romaine lettuce, or cilantro or parsley

The pellets with the colorful items in it is like candy, and not very healthy Are there any plain pellets? The colors are supposed to attract us bunny slaves into buying it for our rabbits.

There are some plain pellets, I am slowly decreasing the bunny ‘candy’ and increasing the allen and page natural rabbit ( what Vienna has) cos I really don’t want him to be eating that for long.

Definitely try some more things. My extremely picky bunny will only eat lettuce like romaine, red, or green leaf. He did learn to eat parsley once bonded with my other rabbit, so they can definitely teach each other to try new things.

Ok, I’ll try some other things next feeding time. BTW no progress made on eating veggies yet, he still just leaves them

I agree to try some different things. Some favorites of my bunnies are Romaine, Dandelion Greens, Cilantro, Parsley and Endive.
