Hello. My bunny just got neutered on Tuesday and this being my first bunny, I have no clue what’s a healing incision and what’s not. My bunny Pippin is also making it really hard to check and see. The “balls” look a little red still and I can see a black area. How tips on what to look for? Any advice is helpful! Oh and he is eating, drinking, pooping normal. Vet told me he started eating as soon as he woke up!

Does Pippin have a favorite treat? Maybe holding it up high and doing a quick check

I tried that. He got up on his hindlegs (i saw that suggestion in another thread) but he is still so fluffy I couldn’t really see anything!

I guess the best question is what should I hope not to see? What would an infection or bad healing incision look like?

If you can’t see that way, then there is no harm in picking him up (if he will tolerate it). Otherwise you could try holding a mirror down there when he stands on his hind legs.

Bad stuff to look for would be redness, swelling, oozing, etc. There will be some redness and swelling initially, but it should be subsiding.

Here’s a picture of my rabbit some 30 hours after the surgery:

                He’s healed excellently.

So things look okay ( its been a week) I think the area looks okay (of course I’m not really sure…) but Pippin seems to be not using his back left leg. He’s hopping fine but I can easily tell that he is favoring his right leg.

Does this have to do with the neuter? Has this happened with anyone?

And thank you all for your help! I’m be super cautious and making sure everything is okay. These are my first bunnies and I want to make sure they are happy, healthy and comfortable!
