        Hi everyone.

So I recently bonded my  2 bunnies about 2 weeks ago. It took me about 1 1/2 weeks to bond them. So far they have been great, cuddling and everything. These bunnies are free run of my room in the day but have to be locked up at night in their nic cage that’s about the size of an ex-pen. These last few days I have looking down form my bed (I sleep in a bunked) and have seen my male rabbit, Jonah trying to hump Penelope, my female. They are both fixed so I don’t really know why he keeps doing this but I feel bad for Penelope because shes locked in a cage with a rabbit who just wants to hump her. Whenever I put them in their cage together at night time their fine but its not till the morning when all of this is going on. Otherwise they are totally fine together. My male rabbit really likes food and I always give them their pellets right when I let them out so could it be that he just really wants out to get his food. My male also never grooms my female, my female only grooms him so far. Its almost spring so do you think that has anything do do with it? They seem fine together during the day and even when I lick them in their cage at night but its only till the morning that this all happens. Can someone please give my advise.

Humping is a dominance thing not a sexual thing and if the other rabbit is fine with it, then you should just allow this behavior to happen – it’s perfectly normal rabbit behavior. It could be that he is excited to get his food and that is why he is humping her.

It is also normal to have one rabbit do all the grooming so don’t worry about this either. Some rabbits never groom each other when bonded – it’s not necessary to be bonded and have grooming at all. So that being said one sided grooming is normal.
