So Tesla is a very bold/stubborn bunny, I have purchased a nice squirt bottle to try and let him know when he is misbehaving, I read somewhere that it helps. I have also purchased some of the bitter apple spray.

Today while Tesla was out, he got a good soaking from the squirt bottle and didn’t give one little care about being squirted to try and get him to stop chewing on the carpet, I even sprayed the area with bitter apple, and covered it up after that didn’t work, with a blanket, he doesn’t get scared away, he doesn’t seem to care one way or another, I would shoo him and he just looks at me like I’m crazy and then goes back to doing what he wants.

        Any suggestions??

Sounds like he’s being a normal baby bunny. How old is he, and has he been neutered yet? You said in a previous thread that he wasn’t neutered, but that was about a month ago and I don’t recall if you said he’s been in since then.

Neutering will help calm the destructive behaviors down a great deal, but some of his behaviors are age-related and may continue until he’s about 12 months old. Babies want to explore everything with their mouths, and they’re testing their limits of what they can do.

My best advice is to just supervise closely until he’s neutered and full-grown. Have a limited space that is bunny-proofed. Block the carpeting with rugs or something. Give him your attention during exercise time. This can also work well as a bond strengthening time since you’ll be down on his level a lot.

Thanks Beka, so far he has had the whole living room to roam around but I will block it off so it’s a bit smaller and put blankets and towels over the carpet to keep him away from that. He’s not neutered yet, we’re waiting for pay day to come around so we can take him and see if he’s big enough to get fixed.

Don’t count on the carpet munching to go away when neutered. Harley is nearly a month post neuter and he is bad as ever about the carpet. I’m patiently waiting until he outgrows this phase. Or hopefully he does. But until then, I’m on full guard the whole time he is out to tell him no and shoo him away 20+ times during his play time.

I have noticed that laying out a few cardboard boxes deters his attention from my carpet a little bit… But not enough to not have to watch him like a hawk.

My rabbit chewed my rag-rugs, he made them back into rags, very efficiently. Then I started giving him lots of apple-twigs to chew on. He’s left the rugs alone since then. He does consume a lot of twigs though so it’s best if you have access to a tree or preferably several. And serve them as freshly cut as possible, even a few hours inside make them less appetizing.

The trees musn’t have been treated with pesticides though because that would be toxic to rabbits.

I agree with Bam, Nigel tried chewing the baseboards at first but a constant supply of apple twigs keeps him happy.

I live in Alaska so no apple trees are nearby. I have lots of cardboard boxes and chew toys that I put all over the carpet for him, yet he still goes for the carpet 90% of the time =p

If he likes digging, you may want to try a box filled with shredded paper for him. One of my boys goes bonkers for his diggy box.

He also liked tugging on the carpet, and I had to put a couple of bricks down where he liked to tug at it. Not being able to get to the spot made him forget about it, and he focuses on other stuff now.

I like that digging box idea, if I fill a big cardboard box with stuff to dig, do you think he would like that?
