I just want to share a special moment I had with dotty last night, and hopefully it will bring a smile to some readers’ faces as well.

First of all, you should know that Dotty does not like to move.  She will sit somewhere for hours.  Yesterday, I tried to play with her for a while by setting her loose on our living room floor.  It was no surprise to see her sitting there exactly where I placed her looking up at me.

I tried to taunt her with treats, calling her name, and nothing worked.  It got to a point that she just stopped looking at me and started grooming herself, pretending like I wasn’t even there.  Basically, it was like I was playing and talking to a wall.

Finally, I gave up and walked away from her.  Next thing I knew, I felt something soft bump into my legs.  I looked down, and there she was sitting at my feet.  I bent down and petted her head and she started making chattering sounds with her teeth, something I’ve never heard her do!  Some of you may have read my post about how I cannot tell if my rabbit is happy.  Dotty doesn’t express herself in making sounds or thumping her feet, so yesterday that was a surprise for me.

I continued petting her for a while, and stopped for a moment.  My hand was near her as I sat with her.  In a moment of sheer surprise, she nudged her nose against my hand as if asking to be petted some more.  So, I continued to pet her head down to her body, and her chattering sounds with her teeth continued.  I then put my hand away to test if she would come find it again.  She started hopping around me in circles looking for it.  When she finally found it, she nudged her nose against it again til I gave in and continued petting her.

It was such an adorable moment.  I wish I could have gotten it on tape.  It brought me so much joy that I wanted to share.  =)

Sounds like Dotty was practicing being a cat.

I find often the best way to get a bun’s attention is to ignore them. They can be very strange little creatures.

I love bunny nudges. They can get pretty bratty and demanding about it though. If Bindi is sitting on the couch with me, I’m not allowed to stop petting him for a second before he gives me the “What the….” look and “nudge nudges” me.

Oh yes ignoring makes them seem to CRAVE your attention! If I ignore Sally too long she will nudge my leg with her nose. If i STILL ignore her she will actually pull at my pants lol and then She will try climbing up my leg and then finally jump up on the couch and be like WHY ARE YOU NEGLECTING ME?!?
I never ignore her unless I’m really into a good book or something and I try reading quickly to find an ending spot lol or well if I’m just busy doing something and can’t redirect my attention *shurgs*

So cute!!! I love moments like this. It took my bun a few months to really acknowledge me (he was a rescue, who knows what his life was like before) but once he finally did it was SO amazing! I feel so much more accomplished to earn an animal’s love, in my opinion
