I’m re-designing the bunny room as I mentioned in THIS thread. I was planning on using vinyl flooring but Monty’s hock issue makes me think that will not be soft enough. I have a bunch of bunny beds like the ones LPT suggested in THIS thread and I love them but I’m worried that his hocks might still get aggravated on vinyl flooring even with the beds for him to rest on. Laying down towels/blankets everywhere would not be ideal because Dexter and Penny like to pee on them (but not the beds).

Any suggestions for flooring soft enough to reduce sore hock aggravation? I was thinking about foam or rubber but I’m not sure if it will help.

Have you thought of doing vinyl and then placing the beds on top? At least this way if they do pee on the beds it can be easily cleaned up? Since your buns like to pee on soft things I would worry about them peeing on the carpet it you were to use it on the bottom of your levels.

That’s what I was thinking but my concern was that if the majority of the floor is vinyl and “hard” will the beds be enough for him to avoid aggravating his hocks too much? Maybe it’s as easy as getting more beds and spreading them all over. Maybe I can lay some padding under the vinyl. Hm… Lots to think about. Dexter and Penny don’t really pee on the beds just towels and blankets for whatever reason.

I guess I just trying to avoid spending all the money on it all and then realizing “Well…. None of this works!” so I’m trying to explore all my options. I wish my buns could be on carpet but Dexter thinks it’s fun dig time >.<

            Thank you for you input

You shouldn’t need to place padding under the vinyl. Only because it’ll cause issues with it sticking. The bed should be enough of a fluffy place for your bun to be. If I remember correctly the beds LPT showed you are pretty soft. I know Mocha took some fleece blankets and folded those up before placing the beds on top. That may work if you are really wanting to make it super soft and cushy.

You’re right. I’m definitely over thinking it. Vinyl flooring with the beds would be the cheapest option and it would easy enough to try a different flooring over it if I’m not satisfied with it later Thank you!

No problem! As bun parents we tend to all over think about the safety of our furry loves. =]
