My little bun seems to always be kicking the litter out of his litter box. He is around 5 years old. This is a new habit that just started.

maybe he is starting to have difficulty hopping in and out of his box since he is an older bun? Or is he just kicking it out of boredom or does he do it when he hops out of the box?

He seems to do it when he hops out.

It’s pretty common with rabbits to do this – most of mine do. At least he is using the box.

He might enjoy a slightly larger litter pan. His feet may have grown a little more, or he gained weight, or he just has different coordination at this age. I find that a higher sided pan (like for cats, but with a low front entry dip in it) makes things cleaner on the exit jumps.

Thank you for the replies. I do have a large cat pan with high sides and a dip for entry. The litter still seems to get out. I will just have to experiment. Thank you!

What kind of litter are you using? Sometimes the lighter litters like Carefresh can get stuck on their feet and tracked out.

                      I’m using Feline Pine.

Hmm… That’s not light. He must just be kicking it then. Have you considered a grate over the litter?

Is something like this ( http://store.binkybunny.com/litter-box-and-screen-kit—medium-size-p113.aspx?widget=mp ) what you are referring to? If that could stop the litter from coming out then I’d gladly get it.

Yeah, something like that that lays over the litter. Or an actual grate. I think of those cookie cooling racks where poops could still fall through.

You know what, I’m thinking of buying this (http://store.binkybunny.com/litter-box-and-screen-kit—large-size-p181.aspx). Thanks for all of the help!
