We’ve had our new bunny for about 3 weeks, and we’ve slowly discovered that he’s a night owl.  He’ll generally wander out to play around 10pm at night — just when my husband and I are getting ready to turn in.  At that point he’s crazy funny, but my poor little girl never gets to see him like that.  When we can coax him out before 8pm (okay, maybe “annoy him out” is a more accurate term) he’ll hop around for a few minutes then head back to his exercise pen.  Is there any way to get him to wake up earlier?  Because my husband and I are major softees and feel bad for ignoring bunny when he’s so eager to play, we’re becoming majorly sleep deprived!

I let Harley out around 4 or 5 pm and close the gate around 11pm when I’m off to bed even if he isn’t ready. Now, he comes out as soon as I open the gate…it’s like he has caught on that his freedom ends around 11…

I’ve had my bunnies for 6 months now and if you keep them on the same schedule they soon adapt to it. I always gave my bunnies pellets right before I would go to bed so they hear the bag and both just run in their cage now eat the pellets some hay and usually sleep mostly through the night some mornings i get woken up a little early but usually they know we’re sleeping and let us be. Try getting him on a set schedule and slowly move the time up by 15 mins a week until you get him up to your normal bed time and try giving him a special treat so he knows it’s bed time. This worked great when our schedule changed because my boyfriend got hurt at work even if it wasn’t the normal time they go to bed they knew by the pellets okay daddy is going to lay down for a little while so we’ll take a nap too until he turns the light back on. And if we’re staying up later then they want they will start tossing their food bowel to let us they are ready for bed or if I’m home all day and they want an afternoon nap it’s like hey give us some pellets and turn off that light we need our bunny nap. They are very smart and learn things very fast even when they’re young.
