I’ve only had my bunny for a few weeks.  Last week we got him neutered.  Tonight we were playing, but he seemed to be smelling all around.  Whenever he poops I vacuum it up, and I always clean him pee up by dabbing it then putting vinegar on it.  Tonight I was laying on the blanket and he began digging me, and smelling me.  Then all of a sudden he lunged and nipped me in the face.  I said no! And he sat back and did it again!   (It did not break skin)

Was I in his way?  Was this dominance?  Or was it simply, “play with me?”

        Any thoughts would be helpful.

Could be the post-neuter crazies. Where was the blanket? Is this his area?

We have a play area that opens up when we put his gate down. This play area has a big yellow black underneath it. (we have wood floors) But the blanket I was laying on was more of a random one that he’s not on all the time. (I just wanted something comfy to lay on, a throw blanket to rest my head on and whatnot)

            What is the post-neuter crazies?

That’s when their hormones are going wacko in the weeks following the neuter. It makes some bunnies seem like completely different bunnies. When everything settles down, then they go back to normal.

He was so happy jumping around, and running around before. Is it possible that this was an angry lung and nip? …and why did he do it twice? (When he clearly understood it was bad)

The running around, being hyper, nipping and lunging could all be because of hormones. When Wooly was first neutered, he was so ridiculously hyper. He was running around and getting into everything. He was chewing things he knew he wasn’t supposed to. He was just plain being naughty. Wooly didn’t display a lot of dominance behaviors, but a lot of buns do when they are experiencing the crazies. I honestly don’t think your bun was angry with you. It’s hard to know what was going on in his head, but it is possible he just wasn’t “thinking straight”. If bunnies really do do that. LOL You know what I mean though.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is not to read too much into it. Wait until his hormones die down. If he still does it after that, then you might want to look into it more.

I agree with LBJ10. Those are hormonal behaviors and it will take several weeks for them to die down.
