I’ve always kept a small salt block around Velvets bed in case she feels the need, but, do bunnies need something like this if they are in a cotrolled environment, as in, not outside in the searing heat?

I’m not sure why an outside rabbit would need this either…rabbits who have a health well rounded diet with hay, good quality pellets and veggies don’t need these things.

Well, you see those in pet stores all over for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. IONO

Some animals can benefit from salt and mineral licks. As far as I know, rabbits don’t really benefit from them at all. Especially if they have a proper diet. Just because something has “rabbit” on the label doesn’t mean it is good for them. It’s just the manufacturer trying to make more money.

Ever so often I see her take a lick, but, prolly just to taste it?

It is neither necessary nor harmful(as long as you have enough water). The only time a rabbit would really need it is there was a health issue where a salt block would be of some health benefit under the circumstances. I tried it, at a vets recommendation, to get one of my bunnies to drink more water, however, he had no interest in it.

I started getting salt wheels for Thumper last winter. He kept licking my shoes and eventually I figured out it’s from the salt. It seems to me a salt wheel is probably better for him than whatever is on my shoes at the end of the day. ewww.

I give my bunny a mineral lick because he won’t eat anything but pellets or hay 🙁 so I thought it might help him get the minerals he needs. He hasn’t used it yet though
