I looked at Wooly’s eye last night and it was oozing a little. This is the same eye with the torn third eyelid. If you don’t remember, he tore it when he was a baby and the only way to “fix” it is to surgically remove it. The vet said to just watch it, no problems then no worries. Well it isn’t swollen or anything, just pink and protruding a little like it always is. I’m afraid he might have bumped it on something and irritated it. The liquid was above his eye, like he had been pawing at it. I’m just going to watch it for a little while and if it doesn’t look any better then I will take him to the vet. Does this sound alright?

I really can’t say as I’ve never dealt with anything like that. I would just watch it for a couple of days and if no improvement, ring the vet.

The vet said it was pretty much a cosmetic thing. His third eyelid was torn, so part of it always protrudes a little bit. He just has this pink thing in the corner of his eye. Anyway, it looks a little pinker than normal but it isn’t red and icky looking like when it first happened. His eye is oozing a little right there though, that’s why I thought maybe something irritated it. Oh well, I will just keep an eye on it for now to see how it goes. I imagine there will always be the potential for something to bother it since it sticks out.

What kind of ooze is coming from it? As long as it’s not pus-looking, I think a careful watch and wait is a good way to go with a vet appointment as backup.

I agree with watching it as long as there’s no pus.

This weekend Hannah suddenly had a dark pink (not quite red) and swollen eye to the point where she could barely open it. We watched it and within a day it was significantly better. I think sometimes they just get poked with hay or something and it needs time to flush out the irritation.

Peppy – The ooze was pretty much a clear liquid, as far as I could tell.

Well I took a look at it when I got home today. There is a little area next to his eye where the hair is stuck together like it dried. Otherwise there doesn’t appear to be any discharge anymore. His third eyelid has shrunken down again and is light pink. Huh. I guess maybe it was just something irritating it. I like Elrohwen’s suggestion, perhaps it was some hay that got in there.
