callie has and has always had excellent litter habits. i got her when she was four months old and she’s now ten months old. she’s spayed. she lives in an xpen and has free roam of my bedroom when i’m there.

over the past month or so she’s started pooping on my bed. i figured she was marking it, no big deal, i could throw the poop into her litter box. well now this past week she’s taken to peeing on my bed. not cool.

backstory: my previous bunny cosie fractured her ankle, most likely from jumping on/off my bed, so i had a friend’s husband build a custom ramp that hooks around my mattress to prevent further injury, and it was a huge help when she got old and arthritic.

back to callie. i didn’t want callie to possibly suffer the same injury, so i had the ramp up about a month after she was settled in.

now, as far as the peeing…i know the best solution is to keep her off the bed and take the ramp down. however, she does know she can jump on and off the bed without the ramp, so i feel like by taking the ramp down she’s just going to jump more. i pick her up and put her back on the floor when she comes on my bed, but she is undeterred. as a last ditch effort i’ve put on old sheet folded in fourths on the part of my bed where she pees so i don’t have to keep changing my sheets.

any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. callie’s a feisty one!!

What about putting a sheet of newspaper and a litter box on the spot where she pees? It’s not ideal but if you want to give her the option of going on the bed, it’s really all I can suggest. Bunnies peeing on the bed is a pretty common problem.

well i took the ramp down, and she’s actually jumping on the bed less. i also put the ramp on my floor against the wall and put some of her toys underneath, so for now she’s distracted by that!!

Bambam used to do that, i moved my bed into the middle of the room (so that only the headboard is touching a wall) and he seemed to stop peeing as he couldnt back into a corner. Also try putting the litter box on the bed or put a box that is the same height as your bed next to your bed and put the litter box on there.

Seems like she upped the ante in marking. Going from poops to pee.

TimTim goes through phases of marking my bed and I still don’t know the triggers. I used a towel in the problem spot that helped save the bedding.

Have you been over all possible changes in the environment that might have triggered her behaviour?
Have you been home less or home more even?
One thing that can make rabbits act out of character and be cranky-pants is when they go through a molt. We had a member here call it bunny PMT (Pre Molt Syndrome) with her rabbit. Lol
Being 10 months, has Callie had her first big molt yet?

It’s good to know the removing the ramp has helped.
