Hi everyone, I have some questions on Daisy’s spaying.I have experienced a neutering for my male rabbit and the other female rabbit I adopted was already spayed, so this is the first for me for spaying…

The most thing I’m worried about is if my rabbit will eat normally. My male rabbit ate within an hour after he came home, but I heard that female buns take longer to heal. So , is it normal or abnormal for my bunny not to eat after surgery?

Also, I have to let her stay in my room for her recovery because it’s more quiet upstairs in my bedroom. However, because of that, she won’t be near the other 3 buns during her recovery. Is it safe for me to let the other buns visit her? If so, in what way?

Will the spay affect her personality greatly? She’s the aggressive one out of my other bunnies. My male rabbit didn’t change at all personality wise or anything else for that matter.

How do I check her surgical area without stressing or hurting her?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m just worried!

        Thank you

She most likely will not eat when she gets home – best advice is to offer her something (greens like kale are best) but don’t hover over her or worry over her. She has gotten some strong pain meds and she most likely will be very quiet and want to be left alone.

Is she currently bonded with the other rabbits? I think you should keep her close to them if that is the case.

Will it affect her personality – spaying is for health reasons more than behavior reasons.

Some people find that spaying reduces aggression since it reduces hormonal frustration and makes them less territorial. In my experience, since my female was older, over a year, when I had her spayed, I didn’t notice a whole lot of reduced aggression.

To check Olivia’s incision, I placed her on a towel on the kitchen table, picked up her front legs and just had a quick peek. Some people say using a mirror is a good way to peek under the belly, but I didn’t find it necessary. It’s important to check the incision once daily.

Don’t worry too much if her poos seem a bit strange a day or so after the spay as stress and surgery can cause this.

Best of luck and speedy recovery!

I put a fresh piece of Romaine lettuce in front of velvet, she’d take a bite, chew, fall asleep, chew, fall asleep chew. It will take time. About a day to even start to wake up………………..
