        Hello everyone!
I am not sure whether or not Mocha is overweight. (He is a mini and french lop mix) I look at him from above and he is sorta pear shaped, and I look at him from the side and I can see fat on his arms. I can also feel fat around his tail. I can feel his spine and ribs perfectly fine, and I can feel that inward slope where his ribs end (waist). We were at the vet’s in November and they said that he was 5 1/2 pounds. I am worried because I know how bad obesity is in rabbits.

        Thank you.

Oh, also, he lives in a 4×4 x pen, and gets 6 hours or more of playtime a day.
He gets 1/4 cup of pellets a day, 2 cups of leafy greens, unlimited hay, and a heart shaped Oxbow timothy treat.

he looks like a normal shaped lop to me. and from what you are feeding him on your list he should be healthy. He is a very beautiful bun!! Lops have a tendency to be a little lower to the ground and more “round” each breed has their own shapes, like Big Blue I thought he was getting heavy and my vet said he was actually underweight!! I am sure others will agree to feel his back bone and ribs and you should be able to feel them without pushing down, while not feeling boney. maybe one of the others will be able to explain it better but I hope you understand.

I don’t think he looks overweight. I think Bullrider said it well. Seems like you’re feeding him correctly, so I wouldn’t worry too much unless he starts getting lazy and not playing and romping around then he might start putting on weight. I’ve seen some pretty heavy buns and yours looks normal to me.

He looks pleasantly plump but not obese. Hard to say accurately without feeling him but I would just keep a close eye on his weight. You might want to invest in a kitchen scale to monitor his weight every few weeks. If his weight increases, you will want to adjust his diet.

I am going to have to post some overhead pics of my foster bun Pascal for general assessment. His coat is like silk and he loves head rubs and cuddles but I suspect he did not get the amount of pellets, greens and treats at the shelter that he gets at my house…… I can’t be held responsible!!!!!!!!!!!! He is handsome and charming and deserves treats!!!!!!!! If he doesn’t get what he wants he chins my toes and nuzzles my ankles….
I am going to be in soooooooooooooooooooooooo much $*&! with the shelter.

Hannah looks fatter than him (she’s a 5.5lb mini lop) and the vet always says she’s in perfect weight.

Mocha looks pretty good to me.
