ever since the 10th December (thumper being put to sleep) mischief just doesn’t seem to be himself he is eating like normal but he seems to be losing weight and not gaining any weight at all. we can now feel his back bone and see his hips and his tail seems to be loosing fur i mean big clumps of it im suprised he even has a tail, he loses fur from the rest of his body but thats normal. it’s really scaring me he just doesn’t act like himself anymore and i don’t know what to do to help him.

Rabbits certainly do get depressed after losing a mate and that sometimes means some weight loss. If he’s continuing to lose it, I would be taking him in for a check up just to rule out any other causes.

If Mischief is losing fur around the tail, I wonder if he might have bad case of furmite. You mentioned in an older post that Thumper had skin problems. What kind of problems?
Furmite can be treated with Revolution (puppy/kitten dose). I believe Stronghold is the UK version of it.

What does Mischief have to eat? Hutch rabbits will need more energy from their food during winter to keep warm.

i knew he was depressed but he looked like to got out of it for a while then suddenly went back to being depressed. and when i took him for a check up last time she just kept going on about hay. as for thumpers skin condition we never found out, they gave him injections which slowed it down they did that test were they put Sellotape on him they even took skin cells to check what was the matter with him but came back with nothing, i was thinking mischief could be losing fur because he sits in the corner that he uses as the toilet as his backside is always wet now but i don’t even know, as for food i give him a handful of pellets (my hands are small) a few leaves of lettuce, bit of broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts, depending on what we have in the house really and alot of hay and a banana every Friday as a treat. i just feel like now thumper is gone mischief has just given up and i feel like a real bad person because i dont even know what to do.

If his back end is wet with urine he really needs a vet visit. Are you happy with the vet you see?
His fur being wet there would cause fur loss and the skin is no longer protected.

              How old is Mischeif?

im looking into finding a new vet because the one down the road to us the nurses are brilliant but the vet that looks at rabbits always looks at us as if its our fault the rabbit is ill even if its for the yearly injections. and mischief is coming up 2 in may

I agree with Jersey. A wet bottom is not a good thing. There could be some sort of urinary problem. Any stress to a bunnies body, like an infection, can cause weight loss. I hope you can find a vet asap.

just updating i have been to a vets near my grandmas and we have booked an appointment with them for mischief to get checked and benji to be vaccinated. it costs more than the vets near us but if they can find out whats wrong with mischief without looking at me like its my fault he is ill then i dont mind. fingers crossed its nothing serious.

2nd update we took both rabbits to the vets benji is totally clear from anything and everything, mischief on the other hand isnt the vet said that his bottom teeth have grown inwards and that she can feel them on his bottom jaw but not by much as for being constantly wet and losing weight she said that it could be a kidney infection and that if it was there is no cure for him she took blood from him and checked his sugar levels i think she said  and she said they were fine, so she has given him antibiotics and said we will see if there is anything wrong and hopefully we can catch whatever is making him ill and that i should take him back next week for a check up. im defently going back there again as they actually talk to you and explain more were as the vets near us just say this is wrong with him give him this which will cost this much cya. and i only payed £31 for both of them were the vets near us would have charged about £50. hopefully mischief will get better as i dont want to make the final call on him. fingers, hands toes feet and anything else tightly crossed

the vet said that his bottom teeth have grown inwards and that she can feel them on his bottom jaw but not by much

Do you mean the tooth root?
Is it his front teeth or the molars?
Any teeth trouble could certainly contribute to his weight loss and poor coat condition.

It’s good to hear you had a better experience with a different vet.

she looked in his mouth and said his teeth that are showing are ok so im guessing the root and she didnt say which ones just said ive felt his jaw and i can slightly feel his teeth in his jaw im just thankful its his bottom jaw not his top as ive heard the teeth can grow into the brain and kill them not to sure though. hopefully its just his teeth and nothing to do with his kidneys. she found it funny that i give medicine to our rabbits by banana because she said the medicine which she gave us was banana flavour and that it goes well with putting it in the fruit thats the first time ive heard a vet laugh because of that as our old vet had a straight face and looked like she didnt give a toss
