So, I have emerged from quite a silence. I just had no energy to put into rabbity things after Link and then Cortana died (with the exception being my rabbit).

For those who are newer and those who don’t remember me, I have one rabbit, Navi, who is a spayed Lionhead, almost 3 years old.

Recently, I convinced HJ (my fiance – who now lives with me) to get another rabbit. We put in an application for a rescue 4 hours away, didn’t hear back within the week, and got impatient. We now live down the street from the SPCA that we adopted Navi from, so we found ourselves down there while out on errands today.

Well, two bunnies stood out – Cameron and Goggles. It became apparent really quickly once they were out that Cameron was not the rabbit for HJ. Goggles, on the other hand, was sweet as can be, and wanted nothing more than ear rubs and to be a lap bunny.

So HJ dropped me at home and I brought Navi back. I was incredibly nervous, because I know how Cortana and Navi got along… and Goggles and Navi are the complete opposite. They acted like Link and Navi did during their date, and those two were sharing a bedroom with no issues an hour after they came home.

We’re waiting on our landlord approval, which should not be an issue since we’re allowed pets – but we should be able to bring her home tomorrow. We are going to rename her (Goggles just doesn’t fit, and we’re keeping with the video game character naming scheme).

        Now for the actual questions:

The shelter has her on a hay only diet. They said a few days ago, she had a bout of diarrhea, so they ordered the change. The vets have checked her since and everything’s okay, but they have kept her on a hay only diet since. She was eating her hay normally and pooping normally while we were there. She is way overweight so I’m not too worried about the lack of pellets – I may not feed them at all. How do you think I should go about introducing veggies? They don’t have it in their budget at the shelter, and who knows about her previous owners (intake reason was “Don’t Want”), so for all we know, she’s never had greens.

Also, we’d love name suggestions, following our video game character naming scheme.

Hey there!  I have two buns, one of which has had extensive digestive issues (Thumper).  When I asked Thumper’s previous owner what he likes to eat, they didn’t mention any veggies. When I asked Flower’s foster family what veggies she likes, they said “carrots, I guess.”  So I’m not sure either of them got regular veggies before I adopted them.  I just offered romaine (pretty basic) off the bat.  At first, they weren’t sure what to do with it, but pretty soon figured out that it was tasty!  Because of Thumper’s digestive issues, he rarely gets any “interesting” vegetables or fruits but he is allowed romaine or kale.  Flower isn’t very interested in eating a lot of pellets but loves greens.

My opinion is that it can’t hurt to offer Goggles some greens (a little bit at first) and see what happens.

Congrats on the new adoption!! If she’s never had any greens, slowly introduce them into her diet one at a time. Be sure to monitor her pooping to make sure that it doesn’t cause GI upset, especially if she’s had a history of it.

Hooray for video game names…guess who my blue dutch Peppy is named for

Yay Lis! Happy to be hearing from you again and that you’re welcoming a new rabbit into your family.

With veggies, I’d start with some herbs. You can give smaller amounts but they’re still nutritious and if you discover her favourite a, it’s like giving guilt-free treats.

ETA: what a sweetie! I just opened the link. I can see why she was named Goggles haha. It’s great someone is giving her a chance as it the younger ones that get snapped up quickly.

I honestly didn’t even realize she was that old until pretty much everything was finalized and I’d already determined Navi and she were getting along. And at 6, she has 4-8 good years to give us yet – maybe even more if we’re really lucky *crosses fingers*.
Herbs is a good idea! Especially since I planted more parsley than I know what to do with in our indoor planter.

Did you still have list of fave names from when naming Cortana?

I’m liking the name Fi (is it pronounced “Fee”?). kinda goes nice with Navi. No idea if it fits Goggles tho!! Lol
