its a 13 week old female and today we noticed that the fur was matted or had these dark crusts on it. could it be due to moisture? im going to take her to the vet soon but I was wondering if anyone knew.

It’s really impossible just to tell from the picture. I’m glad you are taking her to the vet. It could be many things, mites or scabbing from an injury. Some bunnies with teeth problems develop what is called slobbers which results in their chin being wet which can cause problems in that area.

          Beautiful bunny!

so if it is slobbers, how do you clean it or take care of it? poor thing.. she used to wear a beaded bracelet around her neck and that probably trapped moisture underneath because that area is a bit pink also. It wasn’t too tight or anything though

so i checked again and the neck is fine. the only affected areas are the mouth & chin area. there seems to be a trail going from the mouth to the chin or that flap that females have :/

She is pretty young, but from what you have described I am going to lean toward a tooth problem. I would definitely have her seen by a vet. It may be something they can correct or it may be something that will need continuous maintenance.

Again, it’s hard to see the from the pic but I’m leaning toward a tooth problem too. It’s great that you’re taking her to the vet!

Wearing something around the neck is really not a good idea for rabbits. I’m glad you’ve taken it off.

I just wanted to ask if she scratches at her ears much? There appears to be an irritated area in base of her ear. You may want the vet to check out also.

                    Hope the visit goes well!
