Today I noticed Marley had pooped outside his litter box on the second level of the condo.  They were really small, dark and soft poops.  It looked like he had stepped on one and smooshed it.  I took him out and examined him there were no poops on him or anything.  He seemed fine.  What could this be and what could cause it?

Looks like cecals to me – not enough really to worry about.

At a guess having seen mine do it he has not eaten an entire cecal and a couple of grains have stayed behind and come loose when he hopped onto the second level where OF COURSE they had to be stepped on….

It could also be result of his dental. Either from meds or a bit of stress.

I agree with Jersey. Hit gut might just be a bit messed up from the dental. I wouldn’t worry unless it’s an excessive amount and/or continues for more than a few days.

Thanks! I was kind of thinking it was a cecal but wasn’t sure.

He seems fine today and haven’t noticed any of that. He’s eaten today and eaten a ton of hay! YAY! =) So glad I got that dental done sooner rather than later.

Such a quick result with the eating. Great to hear!
