I read somewhere that rabbits don’t shed, that they only molt. But I’ve also read where people say some shed just like cats or dogs on a regular basis. I was wondering which is true? Charleys hair is starting to shed and I was wondering if she could be on the verge of a molt or if she’s just going to be a shedder. My allergies have been horrible and I am getting a little nervous because every time I play w/ her I can see her fur floating through the air and a little on my clothes. It’s no where near like pictures I’ve seen of molts. No big clumps of fur or bald spots. But I wasn’t sure if this could just be the beginning of her first molt or if she’s just starting to shed.

It can be both really. Some rabbits shed more than others and some molt and some don’t.

My rabbits do both. They shed a little here and there all through the year and then a few times a year blow their coat. My Mini-Rex needed to be brushed every day. It depends on the type of fur.

Sally has shed very little so far. I heard they have their first big shed at 6 months? So I get to see what it’s like in about a month but so far, her shedding is barely noticeable

It really depends on the rabbit. One of mine doesn’t shed much on a regular basis, and I’ve seen her really molt twice in 3 years. The other sheds a little all the time, and has two very obvious sheds every year where he’s obviously shedding out seasonal coats and growing a new one.
