Tesla has been having some wet poops today, not full on diarrhea, but they are not his normal either.  He hasn’t gotten into anything that I can find, but I did just put him in his new cage which is a lot bigger than the one he was using before.  He still seems to be eating and drinking normally, he isn’t acting sick, he’s still hopping around and everything normal, letting me pet him and all of that, but his little poo’s are not normal.

Am I over-stressing something that could be him just being a bit stressed from moving to a bigger home?

          What’s his diet like?

How wet is wet? If it’s only been one day, wait and see if it continues.

I’d say its just the cahnge in environment unless you have added something new to his diet. Reduce his greens for the day and make sure he has plenty of hay. If they stay wet you might need to take him and a sample to the vet to have it checked out.

He has a bowl I keep full of fresh hay, and then this pellet dry mix I found at the pet store that a bunny owning friend of mine recommended, it has normal dry pellets to eat as well as a couple dried up bananas, carrots and some seeds, he’s been eating the same food for a week now.

It’s visibly moist, and squishy/sticky kind of, not pure liquid, which sucks because he isn’t fully litter trained and it’s getting all over the blankets on the floor of his cage, no matter how much I’m trying to clean up the minute I see a mess.

usually I give him a slice of strawberry once every other day as a treat (I heard you have to be careful when they are babies because strawberries have a lot of sugar) He loves to eat them, but I didn’t give any today because of his wet poo’s

First of all, take that pellet dry mix AWAY!!! Those kinds of pellets are actually not good for the bun buns. I would look into getting Oxbow Young Adult Rabbit pellets. It’s a VERY good rabbit food.

I can’t remember how young your new baby is — but make sure he’s about 3 months before introducing any veggies or fruits to his tummy!

TanLover is right lose the pellet mix. The seeds are what is worrying me…Buns do not need seeds in fact many of them will upset their tummies. Pellets should be plain and not too high in protein or fat. The Oxbow is excellent and I would minimise the fruit treats and the carrot. Carrot is very high in sugar and is a treat food only and should only be served in a tiny portion every other day. For a baby bunny on top of the banana and strawberry it would be like candy overload and you know what happens to a childs stomach after too many sweets.

Tesla is just a baby bun bun, I want to say he is 8 weeks old but he may be a little older, when I saw him at the pet store they told me that he had just arrived that morning.

I will look into the Oxbow food when we get into town in the morning, until then if I just take out all the seeds and dried stuff from his current dish would that be ok for the rest of the evening? I live in a small town and the big petstore is an hour drive away but we will be going there first thing in the morning.

The seeds etc. aren’t immediately toxic to bunnies, but it’s like adding junk food to your meals…mixes aren’t the healthiest foods to feed long-term and I definitely encourage you to find a quality pellet. Oxbow is a popular brand around here, but if you aren’t able to locate any, the House Rabbit Society provides these guidelines for selecting a pellet:

                        Recommended Nutritional Value
                        Fiber 18% minimum (20 -25% best)
                        Fat 1 – 2% max
Protein 12 – 14% max (long-haired breeds may need higher)
                        Calcium 1% max

Thank you peppypoo, I will try and find the Oxbow food for Tesla tomorrow morning (for tonight I have gone through his food bowl and picked out all the seeds and dried fruits and veggies. If I can’t find Oxbow I’ll find something with those recommended nutritional values.

Tesla is acting perfectly fine, his ears are their normal perked up selves, and he’s hopping around his new enclosure happily exploring, and tosses a binky out here and there as well.

Woke up this morning and found Tesla to be back to normal, his poo’s are all normal and dry, so it must have been a bit of added stress from changing into the new cage. I’m so glad he’s doing fine, I was really worried, but we cleaned out his litter box and everything has been dry and normal.
