        heyy people

we had our new rabbit benji neutered last Thursday and we left him for a day then tried putting him and mischief together but benji went straight for mischiefs head, not in an attack way but in a mating way, so we left them in their seperated hutches and tried again today (monday) but benji still went for mischief. he is acting like he was never neutered and we didnt have this problem with mischief and thumper, i think its because mischief and thumper were always together were benji has just met him last monday. is there any hope that we can get these two males together without benji going for mischief and giving me a heart attack or do we have to keep them separated?

        thank you for any help

It can take up to a month for the hormones to dissipate. Give it a few weeks until things have died down to bond them. I know it’s awhile but Harley is getting neutered tomorrow and I’m having to wait a month before even allowing him near my female because he can still impregnate her. And I’m not even going to try bonding until she is spayed and recovered as well.

Things take time. Yu won’t see a change immediately.

I agree. Take a few weeks off and then start re-bonding slowly.

I found this when I googled: “In both sexes it takes from 2 weeks to 2 months for the hormones to settle down after neutering.” http://www.animedvets.co.uk/neutering_rabbits.htm

And keep in mind that both sexes can and do hump, whether they’re fixed or not. My spayed female is quite the humper. So I agree, let the hormones dissipate so he settles a bit, but don’t be surprised if he still does it. They’ll work things out eventually – just pull him off if he humps the face so the other bun doesn’t bite him.

Mounting is okay as long as it’s not the face. Just push the bun mounting off the other bunny to prevent any injuries. But if he mounts the other way, let him go unless you see the other bunny getting very agitated. My new bun does this constantly but is happily bonded to his new three bunny friends. It’s just a dominance (not sexual) thing. Usually the mounting will go down after they have established a pecking order though.
