I read a lot of stuff about hay for bunnies. Some mentions Orchard grass as being as good as Timothy Hay…. some says nothing about it. I have had my rabbit for 3 weeks now. When I first got him I bought him Timothy Hay and some fresh veggies. I got paid yesterday and was looking to mix something new into his diet so he doesn’t get bored with one kind. So I’m wondering if it would be good to buy both and give him a mix of both for variety…

I feed my bunnies oat and orchard hay only because my husband is severely allergic to timothy (he does fine with oat and orchard). I don’t think it ever hurts to mix but as long as he’s eating hay I think he’ll be fine.

It’s a grass hay so it’s good for rabbits if your rabbit has a taste for it. Timothy is just the most available in the US I think which is why it’s so popular. But there are plenty of other grass hays – it just depends on where you live as to what is locally grown and available unless you order on-line of course which I have to do.

I have Petco and Petsmart as my only 2 resources but they both have Orchard Grass. I’m not sure if they have other types of grass hays but I know they have Timothy and Orchard.

SarahK, they should have Oat Hay too! Although they don’t stock very much of it at the ones here but they DO have it.

My boyfriend is also allergic to Timothy, so Orchard and Oat is all we use around here! And I have four VERY healthy, top-knotch bunnies!

I only feed my bunnies Orchard Grass…Timothy irritates my skin, and my rabbits didn’t seem to care for timothy hay so I switched to Orchard Grass and they LOVE it! =)

It’s good… I think it’s good to mix up the hay you feed your bunny.  I’ve fed mine botanical, orchard, oat, timothy and alfalfa.  He loves them all! I think they get sick of the same one all of the time.  He always looks excited when I switch it up!
