Bun has VERY downy, cottony hair. EVERYTHING gets stuck in his hair and he gets mats easily. He doesn’t even have litter in his box, because I used to use shredded paper, but that would also get matted into his hair. Hay does as well. I find hair deep into his hair that ends up creating a mat. He also hates grooming. Any advice on litter or grooming and what you’ve done if you have a similar problem. I’m tempted to cut it all off. Haha.

Have you tried using yesterday’s news litter the unscented kind? Or any kind of paper pelleted litter.

Yes, paper based litter is good. Wooly does get hay stuck to him sometimes, but it seems Leopold takes care of it. I even witnessed this the other day. Wooly had a piece of hay stuck to his rear. He was hopping around and he stopped in front of Leopold. Leopold casually sniffed at the piece of hay and then he plucked it off Wooly’s butt! Haha!

As for grooming, I don’t think any rabbit really enjoys it. Wooly will tolerate it for a period of time, but he does have his moments where he has decided he has had enough. At that point he starts grunting at me and trying to move the brush. Wooly’s hair is hard to brush through. I have found the best way to go about it is to lift the hair up in sections, brush the layers underneath first, and then work my way upward. It also helps to gradually work inward, starting with the ends of the hair.

My Angora rabbit Piglet really lives up to his name. I recently found a great groomer (after several disappointing efforts in the past) and he will now be having two shaves each year, in mid Spring and Summer to keep him cool and untangled. He is such a happy bun at the moment with his new do. I will find the pics.

I would go with wood stove pellets for litter, because even hay is going to get in the fur and it sure smells when peed on!

For my lionhead who hates grooming I use a cat slicker brush for brushing

And I use scissors and shears to clip her! I don’t wait for mats, I keep her fur short It’s easier for both of us to spend about 10 minutes shaving every couple of months than brushing weekly. I would suggest if you go this route to have a vet / vet tech show you how to shave first

Thanks everyone! I’m looking for a good brush. Any recommendations? He is shedding like a madman right now. -.-
